Last Inktober Drawings! - The Host and The Shell

Hi peeps,

So it turns out that thinking I could finish 2 highly detailed ink drawings in one day was a little too ambitious of me, hahaha. But here they are, finally, and so this series comes to an end!

THE HOST

Those scales took me FOREVER, but it was a nice somewhat meditative process.
I have started envisioning this concept as a full-fledged painting now and I think it could look very interesting in colour, so maybe I'll tackle that once I am done with the other big pieces I have on the easel.

An alternative version I have been toying with in my head for this piece, is having the bird be a harpy instead, or at least have a human face as it did in my 2017 drawing (which you can see just below).
I also rather enjoy the old pose, so it is giving me more to think about...

2017 version

For those of you who may be newer to me than these sketches, here are the other iterations of this idea that I have made in the past (the above one being the oldest):

2018 version

2020 version

As you can see, I tried a few different iterations, and I am still unsure as to what I lean more towards if I was to make a painting out of it. So many options...
This type of thing always makes me curious to see what decisions future-me will make in the end...

And finally, the last drawing of this series...

THE SHELL

I really enjoyed the inking process on this one in particular, and trying to differentiate visually between the skeleton and the enclosed body.

I think this piece could look really interesting in a vertical format and in colour.
It has something a little reminiscent of Greek tragedies or a tarot card to me.
What do you think?

I hope you will have enjoyed this series and that you weren't getting too sick of seeing ink work by the end!

I will have another poll soon to decide on physical rewards for Nov and Dec, so keep your eyes peeled for that.
I will also be opening up pre-orders for the calendar finally, and preparing for my Christmas sale, as well as hopefully getting started on a new painting, so lots to do and a bunch to share with you soon!

Thank you for being with me during this project, and for being so kind and supportive.
I hope you are all doing well and taking care,
Speak soon and all the best,
M

Comments

Ah that comment means a lot, thank you Katherine! The host seems to have struck a chord with a number of people, the original got snatched up immediately, which I am so thankful for. I am excited to turn it into something bigger hopefully next year :)

I have really enjoyed your Inktober drawings. The Host is amazing! Probably one of my favorites that you're done, ever. I adore corvids, so the 2018 and 2020 versions are particularly lovely as well. I'm very excited to possibly see a painted version, which I agree, would look amazing in color, too.

Thanks Keeter!

So excited for the calendars!

Keeter
