Pastel Paintings + Free Card Download

Hey peeps, 

How are you all?

I've really failed at keeping in touch lately, I'm so sorry. I fell ill again last week, as my immune system was shot by having food poisoning while being ill, so the virus came back, which was fun. I think I am finally on the mends though! Which is a good thing considering that I am flying back to France tomorrow for Christmas! 

The last few days have been crazy, as I needed to catch up on a ridiculous amount of work, but I am getting there!

I have a Skillshare sponsored video coming out this week end, and here's a sneak peak of the pieces I do in that video (above)!
I have some plans to experiment with my style and try to get out of my comfort zone in 2020, and these small studies were a way to start that process. I painted them using colours I am usually very uncomfortable with, and actively stayed away from the colours I usually reach for. It was excruciating, haha. I really enjoyed the process however, and will probably do a few more of these. 

You can see the reference pictures I used below. I used those references mostly as a value guide, to make sure I used my darks and lights correctly, but I tried to extrapolate my colour use, and attempted to create my own colour palette, and stay away from realism. This exercise really helped me loosen up the way I think about colour, and I felt myself getting more confident with colour combinations and choices, which was the main intent for this exercise. 

I want to become more proficient with colour, and although I have no plans to switch to this kind of brightly coloured work for my main work (these did not feel like I was looking at my own work, haha), I like the practice. The more I know about colour, and the more practice I get at using unconventional palettes and combinations, the more strings I am adding to my bow, which is always a good thing when creating.

I made this little card with some small sky studies for a couple of years ago, that I still like a lot. 

My peeps with physical reward will get this postcard physically, and I so wish I could send you ALL a postcard in the mail, but since I can't afford that right now, I figured the next best thing would be to give you all a high-res version of it as a download!

This post should not be my last post for 2019 quite yet, I hope to have more content to share with you once I've settled home in France and can get back to drawing again, and obviously, I'll definitely have more content for you in January.
