First drawing on my new Digital Drawing Tablet!

Hi peeps,

I recently received a digital drawing tablet from Huion to review on my Youtube channel.

The video will go up this week end, so I have mostly been working on it this week, and I wanted to share my first sketch on it with you!

I really enjoyed working on this hand study today. I spent about 5 hours on this, trying to get used to using a tablet and photoshop to paint, and although it is still pretty rough, I already feel a little more comfortable with the concept.

I used maybe 3 brushes max ; a pencil brush by Andantonius (on Deviantart), and a couple of brushes from a free kit by Aaron Griffin (also on Deviantart), both called "Good Brush".
But I mostly just used Good Brush 1. On one layer. Partly because I kept forgetting to check my layers and just kept on painting, haha.

But anyway, I hope you enjoyed this sneak peak, and don't worry, I have no intention of turning to digital to produce my work! I really like digital, and have always wanted a pen display tablet, but I don't want to paint my work digitally. I am too in love with traditional!

I might however, try and fit some creature designs here and there every so often!

I hope you are all well,

Love, M

Wow, a sketch. Yeah sure... 😅 No I think it's a beautiful, beautiful painting. ❤️

This is awesome. And I told get the layer thing. I’ve been trying to get the hang of digital and I always forget about the layers.

It’s beautiful!!

You amaze me. Really 😊. Yes I could scan my sketches but I always forget which is stupid 🤦🏻‍♀️ personally I couldn’t miss traditional art. I love to use different kind of media and I love the sensation and the sounds of painting/drawing/cutting paper.... digital art would be a on the side. I realized I need a newer iPad though, and my laptop is too ‘full’ so it’ll have to wait 😅. Bye 👋🏼 Myriam and thank you for your reply 💙

We gotid won but carnt usd it rit

Wow i Luv it it reul gud

Beautiful! I had a small drawing tablet some years ago but I liked drawing traditional better. But I can see the advantages of having one and using it to tweak references or products like stickers and prints :D

Haha, I didn't actually practice ahead, I jumped straight in (with a reference though, of course)! Digital is quite flexible and forgiving, so I didn't feel the need to practice the drawing before this one, and since I'm reasonably comfortable with traditional mediums already, the skills transfer easily. I would definitely recommend traditional as a great tool for practice. I would warn against it as a sole tool of painting, since one is less likely to be able to go from digital to traditional, than the other way round, but for practicing different looks, lighting, compositions, etc...it's definitely a wonderful tool! I get what you mean about sketches though! Do you have any way to scan your sketches, so that you have a way to keep a copy of the stages you like and print it if you want to go back after going too far? I don't use Procreate (I wish I could afford an ipad, haha), but Photoshop works the same way, and yes it's very easy to keep working on a painting digitally after doing it traditionally. I personally mostly tweaked saturation and contrast if I need to, but nothing stops me from painting on top of a traditional painting digitally :)

I would love to try it. I think it would be useful for me to ‘keep’ a good sketch and be able to re-use it until I’m happy with the final piece 😊. I’m a starter so I practice a lot. Sometimes I get frustrated when I lose a ‘nice sketch ‘ because I overworked it. Also apparently you can use procreate to improve a piece ( painting or drawing) is that true? Another reason would be: getting better lighting on a reference 😉. Anyway, I love your 🖐🏼. It seems to me you already practiced ahead , didn’t you? 😉😅💙🌷💙
