Hi lovely people,
So today, I thought you might enjoy seeing my "failed" attempts at Inktober 2018 drawings. :D
With Inktober, especially in the beginning, there is always a risk I will really dislike a piece I created, but I need to be careful and make the call early, so as to have enough time to create another one in the same day.
Hence why the pieces you see below are unfinished and in the beginnings of life.
These are not ideas I hate, but more concepts that I like but haven't quite figured out how to draw yet. They are ideas that I would need to explore further and with less pressure to figure out how to properly express them on paper.
They either feel too stiff to me (last one), or the composition is too heavy and the meaning doesn't come across well enough in my view (like the first one), or the details I was adding started to feel too much and I started feeling overwhelmed.
I'll be honest, I don't actually remember which days they were supposed to be, apart from the last one, which was the first iteration of Day 19, The Storm.
Anyway, here are my unreleased, failed Inktober 2018 sketches!

This drawing was one I made early on, withing the first week of Inktober I think. I recall posting the undersketch to Patreon, and then cursing myself because I ended up abandoning the idea. I think I did The Wind instead, but don't quote me on that.
The idea was that the character had an hourglass for a skull, with sand flowing out of her mouth, but for some reason, I couldn't get it to look good. I still want to revisit the hourglass head concept, but will probably go by it differently.
One of the problems was that I became too ambitious, and tried to add a background and more and more detail, which started to overwhelm the simple premise.
I was also at the stage where I was struggling with the red and black theme, and deciding which elements would work best in red, and with this concept, the red sand looked too involuntarily gory and bloody.
If I ever get round to revisiting the idea, I might do it in pencil, or in a limited colour palette. I think it could look cool in graphite only...
But hey, don't listen to me, I suck at revisiting my own concepts. XD

This second drawing was based on the idea that my characters were made of paper, and rolled up together, but it then started to shift towards being rolls of film, and became more and more intricate, to the point where I started to become a bit confused with how to finish it, which can happen if I haven't planned out a concept very well before beginning. Lesson learned. Maybe. I say that but I'll probably do that mistake again soon. XD
I like this idea, actually, these ideas, plural. The concept of the characters being rolls of paper, and the camera film concept. I think if I was ever to revisit this drawing, I would separate the two ideas, and go by them in different ways.

And finally, this one some of you may have seen already as I uploaded it with the day 19 drawing.
It was my first try at the idea I had, but I did it late in the day, I was exhausted and drained, and so didn't think about it very much, and that usually results in me choosing a pose because I want to get it done, and creating something stiff and lifeless.
I am so glad I decided to call it quits on this one, and try it again the next day, as I really like the final Day 19 result.
So these are all of October's unpublished pieces!
I hope this post was somewhat entertaining and/or interesting, don't hesitate to ask any questions if you have any, I always love hearing from you, even if I struggle at responding on time sometime!
Take care everyone,
Love, M
