Hi everyone,
Here's the Sketchbook PDF for September!
[Click on the orange link at the end of the post to download it]
Once again, I didn't have enough sketches done in August to make up a decent PDF of new work for September, so I put together a file with another older sketchbook of mine. I hope that's ok?
I promise I am working on new sketches this month, so I should have a PDF full of fresh drawings for you in October!
Regarding this sketchbook, it is one I was working on back in the summer of 2016. I had just started using Instagram to post my art, so most of those sketches made it on my feed, you can probably spot them on there if you go back far enough, haha.
I was still doing make-up at the time, and I was working on "The Mummy" at that point, and enjoying glorious food and pay because, well, big Tom Cruise movie, and Tom Cruise is a diva, and we had TONS of downtime, because movie work is 120% waiting time, so I took a sketchbook with me everywhere.
At that point, I was slowly getting back into making art, and had just started working in sketchbooks properly again, so this little Hahnemuhle sketchbook has a few "first times" in it!
⦠Namely, the old lady sketch on the first slide, was my first "no ref" sketch. The lady with the blue hair was my second (and I was hella proud of her at the time!), and also one of my first gouache tries.
⦠You can see some of my very first thumbnails ever, and sketches for bigger paintings and illustrations.
⦠Slide 6 has my first self-portrait, done after I did the one on slide 12, because the one on slide 12 is an abomination that I would not have let see the light of day but I love you guys and you deserve to see all my nightmarish creations.
⦠I also attempted my first art challenge, the "Style Challenge", which was doing the rounds on social media at the time, where you would try to draw yourself in the styles of your favourites artists.
I even have a Youtube video of this....Here....with audio that comes straight out of 1984, apparently....
This sketchbook was fun, and I remember feeling quite chuffed when I finished it. It is fairly small, but it felt like an achievement at a time when I barely drew, and was starting again after years of not at all.
I hope you will enjoy this other peak into my old work, although this one doesn't go back quite as far as the last one I shared!
Enjoy! <3
Love you all,
M
