Hi peeps,
This was a long time coming, but I finally put together a timelapse of my first attempt at painting a still-life from life!
I painted this back when I was visiting my family in France in April. I put together a little scene with some of my step-mother's best, quirky, vintage items, and attempted to paint the composition from life, in gouache.
I talk a little about the challenges of such an exercise in the video, if you are interested. :)
I know this isn't my typical work, but I hope you also like seeing peaks into my practice like this!
My materials :
- A4 WHSmith Mixed Media sketchbook (250gsm paper)
- Gouache (All fresh):
- Schmincke Titanium White ( I think something is wrong with that tube, the paint does not blend with water at all, and gets clumpy and horrible. It's my only tube of Schmincke, and not giving me the best of impressions of the brand, so I might give another tube of it a try to see if mine is a bad batch)
- Pebeo Payne's Gray (I ordered this tube on Amazon, and the colour is all wrong, it is not Payne's Gray at all, more of a light grey, but I still enjoy painting with it)
- Winsor and Newton Zinc White (to mix with my colours without dulling them too much)
- Daler Rowney Designers Payne's Gray (the proper colour this time XD)
- Daler Rowner Designers Pine Green
- W&N Ultramarine
- Linel Burnt Umber
- W&N Yellow Ochre
- W&N Spectrum Red
- My trusty Twist Grip Angled Brush
Enjoy!
