Hi all,
So here's my finished "Hollow" painting (I think I might in fact stick with that title...I can't think of one I prefer...).
I painted it in gouache and watercolour (watercolour for the initial values and colour layers and gouache for...everything else....), and used a lot of acrylic matte medium to layer my gouache like I would oils. It did make me want to get myself some oils...I think that they would work better for some of my finished pieces, when I spend a few days on a piece and need to be able to layer and rework areas a lot. I want to try some of those fancy water mixable oils...
But anyway, here it is! It was more of a struggle than any of my other pieces ever, if I'm honest! I might revisit it at some later time and see if I can improve on it, but for the time being, this is where I am at. It was such a challenge, and I learned so very much. I hope you guys will like it...
I chose muted earthy colours as it felt fitting for the imagery, in my head, in some odd way. As if we were seeing the layers of earth inside of the character, the dark soil where strange things live....If that makes sense?
Scans never quite translate colour and texture all that well, so I always find myself rather frustrated when I see scans and pictures of my work, and I always prefer the real thing, obviously, but oh well. :) I actually love how in real life, the layers of gouache and matte medium have actually created a texture similar to an oil painting on canvas, even though this piece is on watercolour paper.
Anyway. I blabber.
I hope you guys are all well, and that you like this piece.
Best, M
