Project Diary #2

Aaaaand here we are. Not a lot has been done since the last entry I'm afraid. What with lots of tumbles and dealings with all the social media and such...

BUT!

Even when not drawing I'm still on it, thinking and plotting. So some thinging has been done.

1st: Regarding Page #7 (AKA the master test)...

I'm not sure about the line, but I'm definitelly gonna try and redo the rendering/shading. It lacks any sense of contrast as is.

Probably gonna add some more levels of shading, up to 4 I'm thinking, in order to add some more depth to it. Will be adding solid "blacks" (Fun fact, there isn't a bit of black in this page, it's a dark shade of blue that, when turned into greyscale, turns into a dark shade of grey... Duh) such as Konohamaru's hair, most probably.

I mean... Some experiments will be done. I'll make sure to share the results with you guys.

2nd: Layout and sketch for Page #1 is up! Mising effects and whatnot... But the final drawing will look something similar as this.

When making this one I realized something. I LOVE doing the speech bubbles in different shapes, specially giving them the free hand look (most were actually freehanded). Feels a lot more organic and allows for a lot more creativity and narrative about them. Have been checking mangas and doujins in order to get this right (still trying to figure out the manga v my-own-style balance) and there's a funny thing about how they vertical shape of the speech bubbles change the whole page compostion. Crazy stuff that usually goes over our heads (mine at least).

I'm so totally onna redraw the bag crashing to the groun panel...

3rd: Also, been laying out the pages for taking them where Page #1 is:

Most of these still need some fixes in composition (or at least I'm pondering about it). As you can see Page #2 composition is final already and thus the panels have already been laid out.

Oh, as one last curiosity, lemme show you the ref sheet I'm using for this. Most of these are from Naruto's original refs, but some are from artists I would love the people posting the pictures would've credited so I could do so too now.
