Y'all should def watch 28 days/weeks/years later. It's like twd in that it is definitely more about the horror of people set in a zombie apocalypse. Some don't like the second one, but it is a different kind of film. The first was low budget, gritty, and more story driven. The second has different writers/director and is a higher budget film focused on action. The third coming this year brings back the original writers/director which is why people are excited for it.
