Shang-Chi & The Legend of the 10 Rings (2021) Reaction

Just to share...the dragon has a huge symbolism in chinese culture as it represents luck, power and longevity. The dragon (Qing Long/Azure Dragon) is one of the four symbols of the chinese constellations besides the phoenix, tiger and tortoise. The other creatures you saw in this film are all mythical creatures in ancient chinese lores. The lion you saw in this film are actually based on "Stone Lions". In asian countries populated by chinese, they are commonly placed outside of the doors of homes, shops and buildings. The lions are usually symbolized as guardians to ward off bad spirits or karma. Hence, why the Shang-Chi movie used those lions as guardians of their village. The "horses" that you saw are actually called "Long Ma" which is literally a dragon horse also commonly associated with Chinese lores

Really enjoyed your reaction to this film!! :D I hope y'all would react to Ip Man one day led by the amazing Donnie Yen (Caine from John Wick) Its set in the World War 2 era when the Japanese occupied China and it has a amazing story with AWESOME AWESOME ACTION! I promise its the best modern day kung-fu film you EVER watch (It still holds for me ).The martial arts choreography Wing Chun used in Shang-Chi are the main style used in the film Ip Man as well~

"Oh god no my Marijuana patch!! Uuuh I mean my Carrot patch....yeah" 😂

Asian American and Pacific Islander. It's meant to recognize Americans so it's completely understandable for you to not know. Personally i dont know all the detials on it but I know it's mostly to recognize people in that specific demographic!

Josh Viz

You brought up dragon Ball z. You should absolutely watch dragon Ball z abridged on YouTube. It is amazingly hilarious and cuts all the BS out. Please just watch the first episode and you will be hooked

Robert Mendoza

Can someone please explain to me what AAPI (from the description) is in a little detail. I think its mostly an American thing because I'm European and i've never heard of it. I'm not trying to be insensitive or anything, I just wanna be educated about something I know nothing about..

Lifehouse

Next is eternals

Not much to add after all this (above). You didn't mention if you recognized Michelle Yeoh (their aunt) from Everything Everywhere, AaO. She is a legend of the martial arts genre. For more, see: "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon". Awkwafina has another fun role in "Crazy Rich Asians"

Jim Schmitz

At least watch it first. It will deepen your appreciation of the more recent film series.

Jim Schmitz

Oh yeah the show we all want to forget 😅

Monkey D. Tomy

we will pick up that story in She Hulk down the line.

DarrellWaller

I'm not going to say to much about this one except, you know when you read a novel then watch the movie adaptation and it's really nothing like the novel? well.........that's how I felt about this, but, it is what it is. Not my favorite but I know a lot of people that never read the comic loved it. So good deal. Now, you mentioned Planet of the Apes. Ok, I dm'ed you guys a few weeks ago and said it is a MUST SEE movie, but PLEASE watch the original *(1968) version. It is a magnificent movie with a really deep message. PLEASE react to that one.

DarrellWaller

You do know how to get a guy excited...thanks, Brony.

Jim Schmitz

ive waited for this moment, hitting the lights and watching , lets go

Phil Tilly

Yep thats the one 😄

Monkey D. Tomy

Kunai i believe is what you call those little blades. Shuriken is the star shaped throwable weapon.

Monkey D. Tomy

the guy that "feels like a monsta" ?

Mr. October

Wong fighting abomination was so random 😅 we last saw abomination in the incredible hulk. He was the main villain.

Monkey D. Tomy

The weapon you asked about Mr. O is called a Kunai!

Awkwafina was a great sidekick/comic relief character, she played off Simu perfectly. All around great movie... After Eternals it is actually Hawkeye, but you should do Daredevil first, for some scenes in future movies/shows to make more sense to you. And before the 3rd Spiderman movie, there is Moon Knight, a show I know you will love, especially after this reaction.

Ontario’s very own Simu Liu mostly did television shows, but not only is this his first movie. He’s also the lead role and a superhero. This is also Meng’er Zhang’s first mainstream role. She’s mostly done a lot of theater work, but thankfully her co-star Sir Ben Kingsley has a lot of experience in both stage and camera acting. He would offer her advice on how to tell the two apart. The Ten Rings have been in the MCU since the beginning. They’re the same organization that kidnapped Tony in Afghanistan. After his wife died, Wenwu resumed operations. One of the first things he had his men do was take Tony hostage so he could build a Jericho missile for them. This film was originally slated to premiere in February 2021 in part to celebrate Lunar New Year. However, COVID delayed everything and the movie had to be postponed until September of the same year. They were able to film about a third of the movie (including the bus fight) over the course of two months before they had to go on hiatus and send the cast and most of the crew home. The director Destin Daniel Cretton was among the few who stayed behind to move along with post-production. Four months later, they were able to resume. Part of the reason is because they were filming in Australia. COVID cases there weren’t as high as in most other countries at the time. Another month later, Simu and Meng’er were able to put on their superhero costumes for the first time. Even though I had seen posters of Shang-Chi in his costume months before the film premiered, I was still surprised when I went to see this movie in theaters for the first time that the jackets made for Shang-Chi and Xialing were made of dragon scales. According to designer Andy Park, the triangle motif on Shang-Chi’s costume symbolizes the endless cycle of life, death, and rebirth. The complete costume is made up of the three parts that tell the full story of his journey: 1.) the dragon scale armor from his mother 2.) the rings from his father 3.) the Air Jordans from his time in the States In the comics, the ten rings are worn around the fingers. Back in Iron Man 3, even Trevor wore ten brass rings as part of his Mandarin costume. For the MCU, the rings were modeled after Hung Gar rings. They were purposely designed to be worn around the arms like bracelets since having them worn on the fingers would’ve felt too similar to the Infinity Stones on Thanos’ gauntlet. Andy Le who portrays Death Dealer (the Ten Rings operative in the white mask) and Cambodian actor D.Y. Sao were Simu Liu's personal trainers. The three of them started practicing the fight choreography months ahead of filming. Simu’s training had two components: strength/flexibility and martial arts. He had to learn two different styles for Shang-Chi based on his character’s parents: tai chi (his mom’s more graceful and pacific style) and wing chun (his dad’s more aggressive and menacing style). Also, when Simu's actual parents would call him, it wasn't to check up on him but rather they wanted to know if he got to work with Tony Leung that day. Record label 88 Rising brought a number of their musicians together for this album along with some special guests from other labels to create the official soundtrack, and half of the songs made their way into the final film. There’s also a video on Insider’s YouTube channel that goes further into detail as to how the bus fight scene was put together. And finally, the story about Ta Lo was also published in a childrens' book that’s tied to this movie. It's called "Who Guards My Sleep?" A lot of popular characters from other franchises such as Pokémon and Naruto are based on the mythical creatures that reside in Ta Lo.
