Dark Knight Rises (2012) Reaction

Concluding Christopher Nolan's Batman Trilogy, and let me tell you, that was a masterpiece!

The drama was top tier, along with the visuals, OMG! We could go on and on!

This was EXTREMELY well done! The introduction of Robin & Catwoman was great, along with Bane and Miranda Tate! (surprising twist actually!)

Bruce Wayne is a great character and I hope that's not the actual end of Batman! We hope he rejoins later like an Avenger movie but the DC version?

Thanks for choosing this one you amazing people!

Ann Hathaway was to be catwoman.

i don't think the villains were trying to be righteous. They were trying to destroy the city by any means possible. So they lied, like villains do, to divide the people. Easier to destroy.

Wanna know why they didn't do any Batman films with Blake/Robin as Batman? Because he died the first night so there was no story to tell. Bruce had a lifetime of training. He was very skilled in multiple martial arts before coming into contact with Ra's who then trained him to be 10x better than he was at the start. Blake/Robin has basic police academy training. It doesn't matter what tech Bruce left behind for him, he's dead night 1.

Do you guys plan on watching The Batman with Robert Pattinson

Ryan Reynolds

Ditto!

Its fun to imagine the movie theme's "Rise" with the following lyrics: "Fish, Fish, Pasta, Pasta.."

Lifehouse

so good!

Untouchable trilogy

i hope you feel better <3

So all in all I'd love to see all the much hammier stricter adaptations, but I can now appreciate it for what it is in the way Nolan does films.

Wow, I have so many things to say about how decent it really is on this rewatch that I didn't quite catch other times. But ... 1. You mean he's not juiced up and gives long speeches? ๐Ÿ˜‚ I would agree, but as I said in my comment, I think for what they could adapt for an entire trilogy, they did well to stick to certain themes while making some necessary changes. I like how he acts perfectly as a #1 henchman who does exactly whatever needs to be done that he is told. And the very second he's done it, he says no other word and makes no more expression (like the real Bane). For the movie twist to happen, to make it worthwhile to cast Tom Hardy and pay him, to compel the audience, they changed characteristics. I think getting Tom Hardy and not using mostly CGI to express his portrayal is actually a genius direction. 2. Batman does quit in later comics, it's a trilogy and they're going to cover as much as they can so they did. They stretched and leaped over just about his entire run (in a neat and coherent way imo). But I agree the reason for it was sort of sloppy since they had to go only with what was already established. 3. The Talia reveal wasn't obvious to many so it worked on some level, I do agree their chemistry was non existent, but that's also because they were focusing more on building narratively for the twist. That they managed to acknowledge and intertwine two of Batman's main love interests from the comic books, without making it all about their relationships, is quite a feat for a film trilogy adaptation imo. 4 (i think you meant). Dick Grayson is also my fav but I think, considering every adaptation to exist where Robin's portrayal is either strictly comedic, bastardized, or ridiculed, they did another genius move casting JGL and just alluding to his presence in a way people could actually respect and appreciate. The guy calling him a hothead was not to remark on his hotheadness, it in context was precisely to point out the absurdity of that character and the claim. But also to point out Robins own drive and skill and worthiness to carry the mantle of hero vigilante. And also actually maybe to allude to prior established presence of "hotheadness" in other adaptations of him as a child and as Batman's sidekick in a cheeky nod way. I agree about the guns thing though. 5. it's been theorized and possibly confirmed that the bomb didn't vaporize Bruce because he got the autopilot working and ejected in time (they brought up (autopilot) at least 3 x). He didn't heal in a few days with push ups, the time progression was not portrayed well, but it was portrayed through the establishing montage of uproar within the city, and then clarified to have been 3 months time or more passed by the time he arrived. 6. Idk about this one lol. I think, given everything they had to choose from and work with as far as medium, prior adaptations, and runtime, Nolan and company, crafted something quite genuisely overlapping and intertwining. A lil sumthin for everyone in a "grounded" way ๐Ÿ˜‰๐Ÿคท๐Ÿพโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿ˜Š.

Lady Stoneheart (Uncat)

1. Bane was done horribly and nothing like his comic version. 2. The idea of Batman just quitting is ridiculous. I get Nolan wanted to be "grounded" but that was just lame to me. Especially after the ending to TDK. It was a letdown. 3. The Talia reveal was not only obvious, their relationship had zero build up and no real chemistry. 3. Dick Grayson is my favorite character and how they portrayed "Robin" here was dumb as hell. Why is the other cop calling him a "hothead" every 5 seconds? He literally was completely calm lol and they didn't want him to actually shoot anyone, so they had the bullet ricochet to kill that guy and then he's disgusted by it, not because it actually makes narrative sense, but because they want him to become Batman later so he has to have an aversion to guns. 4. For a series that's supposed to be pretty grounded, there's a number of coincidental things that happen in this that make absolutely no sense, i.e. the bomb not vaporizing Bruce, healing a broken back in a few days with pushups and pressure points (but s bum knee is a deal breaker lol) 5. Why are the guys with guns running at the cops? There's a bit more but those are the biggest issues. It just wasn't very well done overall, imo.

Adrian Rhodes

Curious why you disagree?

Lady Stoneheart (Uncat)

I'm very sick rn so I feel that ๐Ÿ˜“๐Ÿ˜“๐Ÿ˜“. Yeah DC version of Avengers is Justice League. Bane as a henchmen is iconic so it doesn't at all lesson the character. He's probably the most notorious henchman besides like Victor Zsasz or something. It's iconic for fans that they KEPT HIM AS A #1 HENCHMEN. ๐Ÿ˜Š It took everything in me to continue listening to you dissing Robin (and JGLโ˜บ๏ธ) like that ๐Ÿ˜ญ. As someone given up for adoption I fully relate to Robin's speech. You're just supposed to be grateful and get over the trauma you're not even fully conscious you have by early adolescence or people are annoyed and call you a troubled person who "just cant move on". But we can't just move on from our reality facing such childhood trauma. That's the whole point of Gotham. People may grow up in tumultuous family environments, but growing up experiencing such deep loss and lack of family and community creates a whole other way to move in the world. This is why I love the Batman universe so much, it really breaks down society and what it takes for community to bond and prevail. So it's been really interesting watching total newbies digest this material, but also genuinely painful ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚. Have a good trip. Pls do Inception soon -- It's Chris Nolan, with JGL & Tom Hardy in it too.

Lady Stoneheart (Uncat)

I very much disagree but glad you liked it!

Adrian Rhodes

Vast majority enjoy it. It's not perfect or as good as TDK but it's still a great movie.

Jake Follain

Anne, suit and the bike. Rrrr. And the best Batman soundtrack.

John H

Inception on your list yet? Some of the same people in that one. Cheers!

John H

Make sure you watch Zack Snyder's Justice League, not the theatrical version that Joss Whedon directed. Zack Snyder was in charge of the DCEU. He directed Man of Steel, Batman v Superman and then about 2/3rds of the way through Justice League his daughter committed suicide. Warner Bros already wanted to fire him, but he left willingly after the suicide. WB brought in Avengers director Joss Whedon to finish Justice League. Two very different directors, one movie. Didn't work out. After a few years of #ReleaseTheSnyderCut trending on Twitter, WB let Snyder come back to finish his version of Justice League. It was over 4 hours long and WB put it on HBOMax. That version is Snyder's vision of Justice League that fits with Man of Steel and Batman v Superman.

They took Bruce's fingerprints to make stock trades in his name, stock trades that would bankrupt him, causing him to turn Wayne Enterprises over to Miranda Tate. Once she had control, she had access to the energy device. Bane and Miranda knew Bruce was Batman long before they even came to Gotham.

Chase Schleich

Yes, that was the legendary Tom Hardy who of course rightfully got the honor to play both Marvel and DCโ€™s most belovedly yoked villains, Venom and Baneโ€ฆ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿฅฐ

Kiera Walker

Yeah, that's actual Heinz field they're filming at.. as far as the 2 TE's standing next to Roethlisberger, I'm not positve. Heath Miller was a part of the crew with the other player's, but that dude wearing 81 is definitely not Miller, he wore 83 anyways.. Jesse James wore 81 but he was drafted in '12, the year this released.. the two other guys standing next to Hines Ward on the sideline during the anthem, you definitely know, Mike Wallace and Maurkice Pouncey.. Trust me when you have Bill Belichick as your HC for over two decades, you learn the other teams players and matchup's real fast.. Did y'all watch the Tom Brady roast!! funny af, but I kept telling people, for us Boston people, just felt like they were having a normal conversation..

PastaDon

Let's gooooo! Thanks for reacting to this trilogy, it was a really fun rewatch with you both

Kale

okay gonna have to get into these !

Mr. October

"The Prestige" is awesome! Just sayin'.

Jim Schmitz

Sitting down to watch this soon! Pretty pumped. If you want to see Christian Bale and Michael Caine together again on screen, they actually were in an earlier Christopher Nolan movie called The Prestige, and it is amazing. It also has ScarJo and Hugh Jackman. Even talking about it here makes me want to go watch it again right now. Very highly recommend.

Jared M

And yeah I know you want to watch the DCEU but put it a vote. I really think you watch 2021 Joker first and 2023 The Batman for a very grounded story similar to these

Jonny

So yeah guys Batman and Catwoman aka The Bat and the Cat are DC's power couple so to say. Catwoman is bad but Batman cant help himself to be attracted to her. Batman also has a thing with Talia al Ghul. And they have a son together in the comics Damian Wayne. Little love triangle action going on. Lol.

Jonny

DCโ€™s version of the Avengers is the Justice League, if you want more Batman yโ€™all should start with Man of Steel(Superman), then Batman Vs Superman: Dawn of Justice, WonderWoman, and last Zach Snyders Justice League. After that you can watch Matt Reevesโ€™ The Batman(2021).

TC24

God, this movie was soooooo disappointing smh but I'm glad you both enjoyed it! Maybe check out the DCEU, which was DC's attempt at creating a shared universe like the MCU (it starts with Man of Steel.)

Adrian Rhodes

O there is plenty of Batman content if you're looking for it. Unlike MCU though, they are their own universes and story lines, but would strongly recommend 2021's The Batman if you're looking for the next one, it's a personal favorite of all the live action Batman pieces.
