Dark Phoenix (2019) Reaction

Continuing the X-Men journey.... with Dark Phoenix.
We know this one got a little bit of hate, but to be honest, we liked it overall.
(this seems to be a trend with us lol)
Maybe we had some timeline questions, but who cares it's enjoyable!
Also cool to see Sansa Stark as Jean Grey! <3
UP NEXT... Falcon & Winter Soldier 1-3, GOT S5 E3&4, Hobbit 2 & American Sniper.
PS. If you want a sick jersey like this bc who doesn't! They don't have to be The Octobers, you can customize your own!

Loved that you guys enjoyed this one. Personally, it’s a love/hate experience for me.
In the spirit of optimism, I’ll focus on the love.
My favorite scene in this movie is when Erik offers Charles a home and we end on the two old friends playing chess.
It is perfect in every way.
In X2:X-Men United in the opening sequence we heard some of a quote from Abraham Lincoln,
“We are not enemies, but friends. We must not be enemies. Though passion may have strained, it must not break our bonds of affection. The mystic chords of memory will swell when again touched, as surely they will be, by the better angels of our nature.”
From the audience’s point of view, we have crossed decades of time with these two characters.
Charles & Erik are the foundation of this universe.
The very first movie ended with two of them at odds, both in their beliefs & over a chess match.
In between the beginning and now, we have seen futures where they both end up dead in one mutant holocaust or another.
All out war, Sentinels, chemically induced neutralization, one way or another, Homosapiens always figure out a way to control and all but eradicate Homo-Superior.
It would seem that Magneto was right all along, and Professor X was a fool, yet no matter what happened, no matter the timeline, their bonds of their affection never truly broke.
Fantastic reaction guys, thank you for sharing this journey with us!

If that's woke to you then that word has lost all meaning. Yeah, they certainly wont agree with that.

Nah. Horrendously bad villain. Showed up roughly 5 times. Pretty bad writing. Ravens deaths was bizarre. Pacing all over the place. Just not a good movie, it's really that simple. Two or three cool moments, that's really about it.

I've never heard anyone describe this as good.

I don't think it would have been well received at any time. The biggest flaw is the movie itself. Stellar cast doesn't make a good movie, unfortunately.

I think this films biggest flaw is coming out a month after Avengers: Endgame. I too did not see this partly due to the poor reviews it received, which is a shame because despite it's flaws it has a stellar cast. P.S. I had the same reaction when I saw 1992 pop up on the screen, REPRESENT!

This is my very first time watching the movie. I had definitely been dissuaded from seeing it originally from the bad press. I didn’t hate, but it certainly wasn’t perfect. The pathos & drama were there, but the story & those AWFUL villains were the weakest parts. Scenes were definitely weirdly elongated which Apocalypse & this one seem to share. Still I love this cast of actors & their portrayal of the X-Men. Now of course they’re all in Marvel/Disney proper’s hands. I look forward to seeing them in their new incarnations. Great reaction guys!

Now they did miss, I believe, with the explosion of the shuttle with Jean in it. There shouldn’t be a fire ball. Now the solar flare may have made it look like that and so it could be true but it looked like Jean absorbed the entire solar flare.

We would all like to forget about the “Aether” & the Elves .

Please don’t have more of that when they get there. No one is here for political debates. If you don’t like something, that’s fine and you can say so. They said how they felt about and aren’t looking for you to argue with them. It’s so much better when you can sit back and just enjoy. Clearly they didn’t read any of the comics so they are a clean slate watching it based off of the previous movies.

The reason why there was a force against the spaceship after they shot the malfunctioning thruster, you can see the thrust on the other side turn on to stop the spin. Nothing crazy going on

After hearing you make several references to MCU, I was surprised that you didn't mention the similarity between the 'Cosmic Force' here and the "Aether'. As always, an enjoyable time with Brony.

And for anyone who knows, it seems to me they did Genosha dirtier than Dark Saga itself. I'll be gooped and gagged forever at that. 😂😣😂

I also don't "hate" it, it just irks me into a rage, but that's not the same as hate, and I appreciate a lot about it. Just overall omg ugh on the execution.

I have decided that I am not longer ashamed to be THAT PERSON. This my shit. Here I am. Lol 🤣
But I also agree with Peter K, you missed something in the og material if you think certain takes are non og material.

They changed the name of the school because Jean sacrificed her life to save everyone. She was the ultimate mutant threat to both mutants and mankind so she offed herself.
This is exactly why we don't like this movie. It's not apparent that this is what happened at all. In the comic books it's built up to in a way that makes it iconic storyline Saga material.
Why do you think they keep doing The Phoenix Sagas? They're trying to re create the impact of the original but have failed miserably.
And this is not "another timeline". It's another reboot franchise, which is also part of the problem. This movie concludes the First Class set reboot. Which should not just be a trilogy if you're going to start with the original first class of X-Men and end with The Dark Phoenix Saga. This is decades of storytelling into a few movies. It's just impossibe this way.
There are no timelines, this isn't Avengers Infinity War Saga, which was done better (and changed in better ways as well). This was 2/3 franchise reboots, they very loosely tied together for kicks, not any greater purpose. It's literally not going anywhere this was the *end* of the Saga.
I'm gonna quit rambling on this though it'll probably bore.
I do appreciate the attempt with this movie, it has some easter eggs, but overall it's tired. The next upcoming reboot will probably be sure to explain and tie things together better, though, and do stories justice, because that is the timeline we are in now irl I guess.

Hey Darrell, just a note from an old white man that was reading Marvel and DC comics back when they were less than 50 cents an issue, they were always 'woke.' I respectfully request that we leave our political viewpoints for other message boards. You say F & TWS is a good story, but you didn't like the political crap...but that IS the story. Frankly, the way the MCU portrayed their world after the snap/blip kind of rings true, and it likely turns you off because it challenges your beliefs. To me, that is good storytelling, I like it when stories shake up what we want to believe.

New mutants was being made or was done while FOX was being bought out by Disney so the release date kept getting pushed back which is why is didn’t perform as well a lot of people forget it even came out.

This movie wasn't great but it wasn't as trash as people made it out to be. Tbh the alien shapeshifting villains were unnecessary. Just have us go agains Jean and the emotional toll it would take and that would have been good enough

Ugh this movie is good but still kinda annoying as they mess with alot of origins.. like nightcrawler is actually the child of mystique.. just like how rogue is mystique's god daughter before rogue absorbed ms marvel's powers permanently.. the romance between mystique and beast.. idk just weird.. the only thing kinda right in a way is how jean got the phoenix force in outerspace saving the x-men.. and again downsizing ororo/storm's powers and even cyclop's.. but ehh.. still good i guess haha.. and thank you to you guys !

Man, I don't want to be THAT GUY, but if you read the original Dark Phoenix saga then watch this you will understand all the hate. I don't want an interpertation word for word, but this is sooooo far removed from the original masterpiece it's a tragedy. Sorry to sound like such a dick, but up next is the woke, virtue signaling Falcon and the Winter Soldier. (to be honest, it IS a good storyline. I think you guys will like it . the political crap just turned me off, however. More on that when we get there.)...then we get to the better stuff like Black Widow and Loki. (not sure which order they came out, TBH).

This movie has some epic scenes and its not as bad as ppl make it. I just didnt like the villains. They're very forgettable imo. But this movie was rushed and changed at the last minute cause of budget issues or something

It's refreshing that the two of u can like a film without all the noise of people trying to MAKE U NOT LIKE SOMETHING because they hate it. Everyone is different and have different taste. This wasn't my favorite but Im not like some who tells reactors to skip a movie because they didn't like it. Perfect example when folks were telling y'all to not watch the dark world and u ended up liking it
