X-Men: Days of Future Past (2014) Rogue Cut

This one was our favorite by far! It was a wild ride!

Magento is cool now and in 1973 :)

Loving this universe. Is it deadpool next or apocolypse?

X-Men: Days of Future Past (2014) Rogue Cut

Comments

I just dont get how anyone can watch the X-Men franchise (even the 1st trilogy) and see how mutants are treated and how Magneto is fighting for mutants while Charles is fighting on the side of those who persecute his people come to the conclusion that Magneto is just 100% bad while Charles is 100% pure and good and moral! Only when the situation becomes apocalyptic for the mutants does Charles finally decide to do more than just hide mutants and basically teach them that humans are more important than they are (and yes that is literally the message he teaches every class of mutants) and instead work with Magneto (in my opinion the true hero who has been fighting on the right side this entire time) to save the mutant race, although afterwards, he goes right back to teaching new classes protecting the fragile and monstrous homo sapiens is more important than self-preservation, which will ultimately lead to another apocalyptic scenario for the mutants...

Lucile Byrd

My favorite X-Man is Gambit, but he doesn't show up as much in the movies (out of the ones I've watched). I use to watch the cartoons when I was younger (I'm old lol 41).

TealSummers

Apocalypse is my favorite one!

Dayvon148

we appreciate you 😃

Mr. October

I joined just to watch this with you !! lol

reijav

This X men film was the best one in my opinion.

Nathaniel Benjamin

Thanks for taking the time. I try to be succinct, but fail sometimes.

Thadman

YES exactly!

imperial

@Thadman I read your entire comment and it was very well stated, I couldn’t agree more.

imperial

Ugh I love this movie so much!! I think I said it in the YouTube comments back when y'all reacted to Avengers Age of Ultron, but Quicksilver is my favorite comic book character of all time so I absolutely lost it when he was in this movie. So cool!! Can't wait to see y'all move forward with the X-Men movies and the MCU!! So many amazing things in store for you!

Emili

I get it. But, he did ask. 😁

Thadman

Respectfully, ion think they reading all that 😂 . And this is coming from a lifelong comic book fan

K Scott

OK, I'm just getting to the end of your discussion and to add on to my previous idea of evolution and adaptation and address what you said about how if mutants existed, it would fundamentally change reality. Yes, it would, but change does not necessarily mean "death". The "norm" would change forever. but that doesn't necessarily mean the end of existence. There are ways to change and move forward without simply destroying each other or everything. With the original analogy this was based off of in the Civil Rights era and the prejudice people had because those who were used to the old world were afraid everything would change if black people (in particular) had the same rights and opportunities as white people. Those people were afraid that the world would end because black people would take over and ruin the world because "they are simply less civilized." The world did change and didn't end because it's just an adaptation. Granted this change would be much more huge than that Civil Rights time because we were still the same species, but the mindset is the same. (also there were people, still are, that don't think we are of the same species) It is a fear of that change, expecting only the worst. I'm not saying, it'd be all sunshine and rainbows, but it doesn't have to end everything. That, I believe, is the over all point of the Charles Xavier, more optimistic view, of what could happen. That it's up to us to adapt, to the new world and not let fear just make us lash out at the new and try to destroy it. I think the over all message for us is to try to be better, otherwise we will not adapt and end up just destroying ourselves anyway. You can see parallels in real life with these lines of thinking. Fear of the "others" is destroying a lot of lives rather than trying understanding, empathy and acceptance. You'll create more allies and less enemies that way, but there will always be bad people. There's no perfect utopia just because you're nice to people. There is no perfection since we are imperfect beings, but it will create a better world and make us more adaptable to problems that do arise and that's really all we can strive for. I feel these movies and comics mean different things to different people, but to me, the over all struggle of them is just asking us to "be better." It is a message of hope and things seem dark and have been dark many times throughout history. The pendulum swings where things get better, then we forget what we've learned and things get worse, but I don't think they get as bad as they were before. It helps me to remember that if we think things are dark now, there was LITERALLY a time period we call The Dark Ages and things got better than that. If we can get outta that, there's hope for figuring out how to navigate things now and in the future. Progress can be damn frustratingly slow though with many setbacks.

Thadman

Trask was looking at it from a purely scientific/evolutionary point of view and firmly believed that the mutants would undoubtedly eventually usurp humans and drive them to extinction, like homo sapiens did to Neanderthal. In that case it was a violent genocide. It could be violent in present day, but since we have more of a capacity to reason, it also might just be that it is how the human species is evolving/adapting to the world. Since more and more mutants began popping up since the Atomic Age, I'd say that it is a way for the species to evolve to the new world. Interestingly, those humans don't see it that way, as though they can stop evolution. I'm of the view that unless mutants, as a group, get radicalized and try to commit genocide, like Shaw in X-Men: First Class, then I don't think I'd have a problem with them. If they're the new evolution, it doesn't effect me as a human, it'd have an effect on my children, grandchildren or great-grandchildren because one or some of them might be mutants. I say, "Let it happen." As long as it's a peaceful transition, why should you CARE about the IDEA of homo sapiens disappearing/dying out as a species? We all die eventually. Oh yeah, I don't think the end credits Trask scene was in the theatrical version. I just think it was meant to say that he was languishing away in prison, the same one that Magneto was in. So, he switched places with the most dangerous mutant that they knew of at the time.

Thadman

When you said (Mr. October) that you didn't know where we're at politically, let's just say that war (with the Sentinels) was averted/thwarted by what they did in the past. It doesn't necessarily mean there will never be a war between humans and mutants. Someone else beside Trask could be the catalyst to a completely different war since the problem of the fear of extinction by the humans is still there, it's just that it didn't take hold and get backing from the government back in 1973.

Thadman

There have been times in history where rivers have been diverted, so if people in the past were able to figure out how to do that, then maybe we CAN do more with time than make only ripples. 😁

Thadman

I also need to rewatch the theatrical release, but I feel the one thing, besides the Rogue stuff in the future, that I didn't remember was Peter's mom talking to his little sister (whom I assumed was Wanda), but she mentions HER sister bothering her (so maybe that was Wanda that she was talking about). I remember the only glimpse of what we assumed was Wanda in theatrical version was when they flash to Peter watching TV of the White House stuff cradling a tiny redhead sister. I loved the original one, but I did like this better. I'm glad they released it so we get to see 2 different versions. Anyone know why they cut the Rogue stuff? I'd guess "for time."

Thadman

on your discord ive posted the differences in the x-men section, hidden by spoiler tags incase someone hasn't seen it yet.

Lifehouse

They have to do Wanda vision first before black widow

asia roberson

You should just finish watching the X-Men saga first then go to Wanda vision

asia roberson

I remember watching this when it was released in theaters and everyone was mad as hell cause Rogue wasnt there lol. That was like the only bad criticism . I was like how the hell the sentinels even find them? Once they released the cut version, it was clear how they were found and it all made more sense

james moore

Bobby still died cause he tried to stop the sentinels from getting in and was toasted

james moore

I love this movie and I love apocalypse as well. I know everyone wants Deadpool cause its a raunchy comedy but its really a spinoff kinda movie. He not really apart of the story but you still need to watch his movies cause they do connect things

james moore

She was only in the end part where you saw her with Bobby.

asia roberson

You gonna need tissues for Logan 😭

asia roberson

Can't wait until you get to Logan's. That's after X-Men apocalypse

asia roberson

TBH Deadpool was before Days of future pass 😭. But watch it now before you watch X-Men apocalypse lol 😹😆🤣.

asia roberson

Can’t wait for Deadpool!!!

Sam Rivera

You might be talking about the first Thor movie as far as how the Sentinels face opens up with the fire beam thing. It's called the Destroyer.

sOMbr

Too many comments already, I've got nothing to add. I did enjoy the "butt cheeks" comment by Tony, though. Hoping you both recover quickly. 👨‍⚕️

Jim Schmitz

It's hard to explain but a couple commenters @Peter K and @CheshireKat528 made some good points. Charles actions led to Dark Phoenix existence in the first place, if you rewatch the movie it tells you how. Erik Lensher was raised in the Holocaust by a literal Nazi with zero empathy which led to him having zero hope in humankind. Mystique is selfish and believes too hard in retaliative justice for some reason. One of your points is probably why their powers come in at puberty, but that also could just be a more direct metaphor for parental fears of their children changing and growing autonomy. So essentially you could assume all you want that mutants who function as they do would be inherently harmful and eugenics or genocidal actions would be an apt solution, but the reason there is conflict about this in the comic books is because it IS meant to inform on real life. You can be of the opinion that Magneto or Trask are ultimately and objectively right, but characters like the X-Men (Cyclops, Storm, Xavier, Jean...) were created, exist and were recruited in the universe to explicitly show us a better way. It's not based upon utopian idealistic fantasies, but actual realistic empirical sociological data on the effectiveness of fear, othering, eugenicism, and genocide as solutions towards difference and conflict. Magneto just wants to live in peace but has trust issues. Mystique just wants to be accepted. If we can give people what they need and not underestimate one's potential to learn and understand themselves, or simply to be de-incentivized towards antisocial behaviors because they aren't being threatened, they probably (according to real life science) won't feel the need to exhibit such maladaptive behaviors, mutant or otherwise. It's not an end all be all catch all surefire approach of course, but individuals are so subjective and arbitrary that it's the best we should do if we want to retain what truly prolongs our earth and species, which is empathy and finding cooperation. That probably doesn't explain it well, but it's already long.

Lady Stoneheart (Uncat)

I guess you're assuming they won't watch Apocalypse, haven't seen it yourself, or forgot.

Lady Stoneheart (Uncat)

Magneto destroys RFK stadium. Still a better stadium than Fed Ex Field 😂

Quinten Shibusawa

There is something you should know about the X-Men, if you haven't figured it out already. They were created in 1963 by Stan and the Marvel gang, in the middle of the civil rights movement. They were a metaphor for the fear 'normal' folks felt about the 'others,' those not like them. What made the 'Silver Age' of comics so interesting was that they explored all kinds of societal issues, hidden inside comic books. Just something to think about, from someone who was reading these comics before many of you were born.

Peter K

Oh ya. Dont hold back. Please just be you. I want your authentic reaction and feedback. You should always speak your mind

Jay Owin

Oh ya anytime now really. You can sprinkle it in with the others. Most of the marvel series are 9 episodes so they work good in 3 episode chunks. However, doing one at a time allows more time to let it simmer and not so much of a time commitment. But if you want to watch more than one episode at a time i would reccomend 3 episode chunks for all 9 episode series because math. Welcome back to tbe MCU. As far as I know you can run the foxverse movies and the mcu side by side whenever you want from here on out. You can zipper merge them if that makes sense.

Jay Owin

Haha well same to you then haha.

Lifehouse

love this little thread right here! and absolutely will check those out!

Mr. October

I would suggest going with deadpool 1 followed by either the other x-men movie and then go for wandavision and so on. It wont screw with anything but you might like a small change of pace to keep things fresh. (just a rule of thumb, xmen apocalypse and logan before deadpool 2) the mcu like wandavision is something thats currently seperate and you can continue that whenever you want.

Lifehouse

i didn't look it up but I was just wrong Idk why i thought that lol

Mr. October

I personally don't know any fire guy in Marvel with the last name Maximoff, I only know of Pietro (or in this case Peter) and Wanda Maximoff

Jason Rogue

i thought they did in X 2!

Mr. October

Lifehouse my dude, you are in all my favorite channels 😂 good to see you brotha

imperial

😆😆😆 get outta my head!

CheshireKat528

Watching this with you guys has made me super excited for you to get back into the “main” MCU. If you want to, now you can, you have enough information to understand what you need to proceed with WandaVision for right now. That being said, I am just as excited for you guys to keep going with the X-Verse 😁 If you want to proceed with the X-Verse while watching WandaVision you absolutely can and it won’t spoil anything for either franchise. Either way it’s all good stuff, ultimately do what is going to keep you guys motivated, excited, and interested to continue with Marvel as a whole. It is a lot of content spread out over decades, a lot of us have had all that time to process it all. I would hate for you guys to get burnt out.So mix it up how ever you need to. Not everyone in the fandom would agree with me, but Marvel has a way of making it worth sticking with it and you guys ain’t seen nothing yet 😜

CheshireKat528

That’s was awesome! Thank you both for powering thru when you are feeling under the weather and dealing with house issues. My interpretation is that they didn’t completely erase the first few movies, they just slightly altered some events. We didn’t see Magneto or Mystique at the school when Logan wakes up in his “new future” … and Rouge’s hair still had the white streaks, so it is possible that the events that brought Logan and Rouge to the school still happened in some way. Same goes for the other films, maybe Jean still went full Dark Phoenix, but was able to control it this time because of Charles being different. Maybe Charles didn’t block Jean’s abilities at a young age and try to control her, and rather focused more on teaching Jean to control her power herself. He learned with Raven how trying to control someone can backfire. Plus, we don’t know what happened to young Stryker. Mystique was impersonating him in the past and took Logan, but we don’t know if Stryker is alive and still got a hold of Logan or any other mutants later. I wanted to wait until this movie to comment about Erik’s helmet. Mrs. October mentioned during First Class how the helmet blocks out the good voice in Erik’s head, by blocking out Charles it essentially cuts off Erik’s conscience and goodness. While promoting this movie Ian McKellen spoke about the importance of Magneto NOT wearing his helmet in the future. The symbolism that he and Charles were finally, truly working together and that Erik no longer wanted or needed his helmet. I like that in the past, young Magneto purposely leaves his helmet behind on the ground after he tells Charles goodbye in front of the White House. In a way to let Charles know that he hasn’t completely lost hope, and if his Old Friend needs him, he can reach him. That he won’t block out the good completely anymore. I really enjoy Michael Fassbender as younger Erik. Sir Ian McKellen has a presence and swagger about him, and I think Fassbender embodies that very well, while still putting his spin on the character. It is easy for me to picture Fassbender’s Erik becoming McKellen’s Erik. I think Logan said it best, “So, you were always an a**hole.” 😆😆😆

CheshireKat528

Nah his name was Allerdyce. Not sure how you guys got Maximoff. Lol. I have to check if they called him that in the movies and I forgot.

Jonny

Y'all there are so many mutants that do so many things. I'd love to talk about it but we can't be spoiling even the ones that haven't been in a movie yet because we don't know what movies might be coming. There are so many cool things they can do though just know there's basically a mutant for every occasion just like you were saying.

Sir_Dalagad

yep next one is x-men apocalypse

Oshay Goodman

TRAINEE

Alex Gonzalez

Yea well most people would have bled out in 2 min with them Wolverine hacks on the side of their ribs 😂

Alex Gonzalez

x-men apocalypse is next, but you have enough context to watch the first deadpool if you want to. definately watch x-men apocalypse & Logan before deadpool 2 though.

Lifehouse

And i really appreciate you guys filming while feeling under the weather, hope you guys feel better soon 🙏❤️

Gio Bellisario

Hope this helps for when you guys start the current mcu

Gio Bellisario

Disney had a contract with fox before they bought them out that they could use mutants or x-men characters like they did in age of ultron but they weren’t allowed to use the word mutants so thats why our version of Wanda and Peter are different they got their powers from an infinity stone. Even after Disney bought fox and got the rights to x-men again they still had to wait a certain amount of years before they could reboot these X-men characters if the wanted to bring them in. This contract recently ended so Disney has full rights to the X-men characters

Gio Bellisario

In case you’re wondering why Storm was downplayed, that’s because Halle Berry was pregnant at the time. Next to that, she also had a limited schedule. And yup, before he was Eitri in Infinity War, Peter Dinklage portrayed Bolivar Trask. Bishop, Blink, Sunspot, and Warpath aren’t official members of the X-Men. They’re actually a group of displaced mutants who don’t have a lot of hope for the future, but they decided to turn to the X-Men in a final attempt to save the world. I forgot to acknowledge some somber news: Adan Canto, the actor who portrayed Sunspot, has passed away about a month ago. His cause of death was appendix cancer. Following his appearance in this movie, Adan would appear on the Netflix series Narcos and the Fox series The Cleaning Lady. He also worked with Halle Berry a second time in her 2019 Netflix movie Bruised. Adan was 42 at the time of his passing. He is survived by his wife and their two children.

Aldo Gonzales

In the theatrical release rogue was only in that scene in the end where wolverine wakes up in the new timeline, kitty still gets cut by wolverine buy it wasn’t that “bad” so they never go for rogue so technically Bobby didn’t die

Gio Bellisario

I would recommend Black Widow first. That was delayed by several months, but officially that’s the kickstarter to phase four.

Aldo Gonzales

I would have to watch the theatrical one again to be sure but I think it basically just cuts any scene you see with Rogue (except the final one after Logan wakes up in the new timeline) and Kitty just powers through getting cut by Logan's claws. I could be wrong though

Erin Renee

Guys watch X-men apocalypse movie next. It has the direct connection with wanda vision. you will get to know about the wanda family tree. after that it will be easy to watch wanda vision series.

keerthika

Deadpool isnt an xman, but.....there are references, you will see. It's the most different superhero movie you have seen yet. X-men: Apocolyse is a disappointment as far as I'm consered, but some people like it. "LOGAN" is very good and is based on the comic "Old Man Logan. You will like that one. "Dark Phoenix" was a total piece of crap. Straight to DVD stuff. I know you want to watch them all, though. Fair enough. To me, this ended the GOOD Xmen movies, though. Can't wait till you get back to the mcu and WandaVision, Hawkeye, Loki and MoonKnight. All of those are top notch!!!

DarrellWaller

yess let us know the difference !

Mr. October

can’t wait

Mr. October

i totally get what you’re saying and we are doing them all. so we are doing the release order for the “x-men universe” so whichever one it is!

Mr. October

can we start wandavision now? we want to badly!!

Mr. October

let’s go! can’t wait

Mr. October

wait so she wasn’t in that one at all?

Mr. October

hahahaha this one is so worth it tho! so so good

Mr. October

but the last name maximoff why was that the fire guys last name too right?

Mr. October

IKR, 🤯🤯🤯 time travel, one of my favorite lines in Endgame is “This is time travel we’re talking about here, either it’s all joke or none of it is.”-Smart Hulk Yeah, the fixed point theory is good stuff. Like Hank (Beast) says in this about a theory in Quantum physics or mechanics, you can throw a rock in a river and create a ripple, but eventually the current always corrects itself… that some things will or have to happen, no matter what you do. Then there’s always time loops and grandfather paradox’s to consider…🤯 way too much 😜😆 To bad Hank Pym isn’t in this universe to help out with all that quantum stuff 🐜🐜🐜 Just a couple of geniuses named Hank brainstorming time travel would be fun to watch.

CheshireKat528

omg yes i did notice the OLDER sister comment!

Mr. October

hahahahahaah omg erin what an idea

Mr. October

Wanda Vision after deadpool or apocalypse? There are so many mcu shows comming up that you can start weaving them in anytime now.

Jay Owin

Just finished the reaction and it was awesome! Sorry you guys are sick but this was my favorite of your content. I saw DOFP in theaters so I'd never seen the Rogue Cut and it was excellent. Also gotta say I've created an October's drinking game. Take a drink anytime the Mrs mentions Assassin's Creed or anytime the Mr brings up a political figure (Vladimir Bolton, Chris Christie, etc) lol! Love you guys ❤️

Erin Renee

Deadpool next right? I think that's the right order! Can't wait!

ShittyShittyGameGang

Oh yeah you are right. Makes sense. Seeing as Wanda and Pietro are twins. Yeah

Jonny

I don't think the younger one is Wanda, the older sister is Wanda. There's a scene where the mom says "go play with your older sister" or something and that's the one that's Wanda I think.

ShittyShittyGameGang

Just a fun tidbit notice the mailbox said Maximoff. You did pick up that was Quicksilver but also that was a young Wanda who said she was a princess. Real cool tidbit. Also Quicksilver said my mom said she knew a guy who could control metal. It was a nod to Magneto being their father in the comic. Not sure if that's true in the XMen movie universe though

Jonny

Well I agree, the anchor you speak of I think is more so the “time space GPS” bracelets Tony constructed in Endgame. Time travel shit is wild, can make your brain hurt if you really get into it lol. In the Back to the Future scenario, I think there are fixed points in time that need to happen so the timeline stays the same. Not to spoil anything in case they haven’t seen it, but the first one pretty much says that with a photo Marty had of him and his siblings. Certain events need to happen or bye bye Marty

Alex Gonzalez

I think depending on what type of time travel method you use, you can do both. Change the past and alter your timeline, as well as cause a divergent timeline. I can’t explain it properly enough with out spoilers to a bunch of time travel related media, but I think having an anchor to the timeline you came from helps to better navigate thru time, make changes, and still get back to your timeline, rather than an alternate one, but you still have the possibility of creating an alternate timeline be a of your interactions in the “past” In this instance Logan’s body was the anchor so he didn’t get lost in time and was able to make changes to the timeline he came from and get back to it with the changes in tact. Because time moved and changed around his body, but he didn’t actually move thru space, idk if that makes sense. If you use a Time Machine that travels with you like in Back to the Future you have no anchor to get you back to your timeline so you bounce around to alternate timelines. What seemed like a changed present for Marty was actually just an alternate timeline, because he moved thru time and space without a proper anchor. In Endgame, Tony made a “fully functioning time/space GPS” so the wrist bands they wore while time traveling were their anchors to the time platform that was left in their original timeline, giving the team a way back so they didn’t get lost in an alternate timeline. I am so happy the Octobers decided to take the time to get to know the Mutants of Marvel before diving into the next MCU Saga, I think this will help them understand and appreciate a certain show even better, at least it did for me. I love time travel media, it’s so much fun to theorize about!

CheshireKat528

Guys first finish the X-men universe movies and then watch deadpoll 1 and 2. because deadpool character or the movie storylines does not co-relate with x men movies. X-men apocalypse has a direct connection with wanda vision

keerthika

Days of Future Past and then Deadpool?? What a great start to my week. Enjoy, guys.

DarrellWaller

This movie sticks with the conventional Time Travel theory that changing the past changes the entire future, erasing said future for a new past, a new beginning and timeline( more akin to Back to the Future). Only thing that’s different but cool is instead of the person using a machine to travel one’s body into the past, it’s someone’s consciousness. Pretty rad lol Endgames time travel was more of going back to the past , creating divergent timelines while still being able to go back to your current future. (Or the time travelers current present) I know, confusing lol

Alex Gonzalez

I've never seen The Rogue Cut. I have it, but haven't watched it yet. I've seen the theatrical one multiple times though. I guess I'll watch it with you guys. I tend to like to have seen the things I'm watching reactions to so I can pay more attention to the reaction, so this'll be a first.

Thadman

So glad that y'all did the Rogue Cut!

Quinten Shibusawa

I can’t wait for the husband and kid to go to work & school, so I can enjoy this in peace. GET OUT PEOPLE! Momma’s gotta watch X-Men today!!! 😆😜😆

CheshireKat528

SAME!!!

CheshireKat528

Oh man this just made my Monday! SO excited that you guys found the Rogue Cut. I still can’t believe they cut ALL her scenes in the theatrical version. She played such a crucial role in the end. Lots of other scenes are also fleshed out more and have extra dialogue. Like in the beginning when they are discussing the risks of time travel and whether the plan is safe or not - I love that. In the theatrical they all just agree right away lol.

imperial

loved it!!!!

Mr. October

Thank you again for doing this version 🫶🏻

Gio Bellisario

Omgg, let’s goo I’m off today so gunna start my day with this in a bit

Gio Bellisario

I believe Deadpool is next. Let me check really quick. Glad you liked the movie, definitely one that I loved for a long time. Just checked, Deadpool is next.

Jason Rogue

Yayyyy! My kids are going to school and then I'm watching!!
