Robert Downey was coming off of a drug addiction and everyone thought he was the worst person to play the character and Iron Man was known as a B level character since Marvel had almost gone bankrupt and sold most of its rights away to Sony, Fox, and Paramount which included Spider-Man and 400 characters to Sony... All of the mutants and X-Men to Fox... etc. Glad to answer any questions you have about Marvel ;-)
