Hello gemlins~ 💜

I needed a break from Blender and doodled this Kai today u wu) I love black/white and screentones so much!!

Also, here's what I'm currently working on in Blender:

I'm following Dédouze's grease pencil tutorial and my milk carton turned out super wonky but I'm at a point where I don't really care about getting everything perfect as much as just understanding the basics so I can do it better the next time haha;;;

I'm still trying to find the best way to make 3D background assets in Blender, and I figured maybe learning how to use grease pencil might be helpful?? That feature basically allows you to draw in a 3D space, which is suuuper interesting to me (but also hurts my brain a little bit). Still a lot to learn, though.

I recently played Gris and I was so in love with the scenery there, the backgrounds and locations are all so beautiful and I wish I could learn to make something a bit similar to this:

(Gris ingame screenshot)

I have no idea how that game was made and if there's even any 3D stuff there, but I'd assume so?? My ideal scenario would be to create an entire location in Blender, render it in a style similar to the image above, have the assets be (re)movable and colours changeable... and then just import that 3D file into Clip Studio, paint over it as needed and be done with it ; o;)
But alas, despite now being pretty familiar with basic Blender functions, I'm still not really sure how to approach this specific part q _q) I will continue to learn more about this software and play around with it! If I can find a temporary solution for Shallow Sleep that'd already be enough, it would get me one step closer to figuring it out for comic projects afterwards! 💜

yea, i looked into it just yesterday and it seems it really is all 2D and handdrawn.... so incredible, everyone working on Gris did such a great job! I've been jumping from tutorial to tutorial lately, just picking and choosing the parts that I think could be useful for what I wanna do and I'm slowly getting closer to my vision. blender is hard to learn but very rewarding :D thank you for your encouraging words! 💜

I am no artist but I know my fair share about video games. I think the Gris art is completely 2D. This does not mean that they did not use effects and systems available in a 3D scene, but the art assets them self seem to be set up as 2D. It is possible to do this style with the right renderings and camera setups in a 3D scene, and there are great tutorials out there on how to do stuff like it. You can do almost any kind of graphical effect in 3D but it takes time to find the ways to do so. It might be a hard topic to learn by yourself, but its worth the work. You can do it :) (btw, I love the little milk carton)

Gorgeous Kai! 🤯😍 This makes me smile so much
