What exactly is Egee.io?
Added 2020-07-13 22:39:38 +0000 UTCThe connection between Egee and Egee.io is a bit weird. Despite the name, Egee .io doesn't have much to do with Egee or the channel (anymore).
Egee .io started as a fan-run Discord server for the Egee channel back when I did occasional Minecraft videos (cringe).
I did a cross-over episode with The Linux Gamer and a lot of people wanted to play on a Minecraft server with us so I created one made it public. Fans created a Discord server to coordinate building & events and poof! Egee .io was born.
I didn't have any interest in managing a Discord server so I delegated the administration to the folks that created it. And since the server was named after me, I was eventually given ownership over it.
The server and community have changed a lot since it was first created. But today, it is just an inclusive gaming community for everyone to enjoy.
Sometimes people ask me during live streams if I have a Discord server and I usually direct them to Egee .io. I'm very active there and many of the people there are fans of the channel, but I don't consider it my personal Discord server.
tl;dr - Egee .io is an inclusive gaming community for everyone. There is a lot of cross-over between Egee and the channel, but Egee .io is not my personal Discord server; it belongs to the community! π
