Calculate Linux - Sufficiently Whelmed
Added 2020-07-11 22:17:25 +0000 UTCI really didn't have a strong opinion on this one. I feel like I should have, considering its based on Gentoo and it had that weird Yast-like console thing, but nothing really did "it" for me.
Gentoo seems to be drummed-up as one of those "super fast" distros but nothing felt particularly "fast" about Calculate Linux. And the gaming performance was pretty underwhelming.
The Cinnamon desktop has never impressed me. It always feels like an alternate take on Xfce but with less character somehow. And the default Gnome-like theme did it no favors.
I somehow missed the networking segment entirely in this episode. I recorded the entire "desktop" segment (post-login to theming to external devices, etc) in one long 15 minute take and I guess I just spaced it. Funnily enough, Samba worked perfectly on Calculate.
I don't even have any fun trivia about this episode. Episode 38 is probably the most mundane of any Distro Delves episode so far 😂
