Unimpressed
Added 2020-04-28 23:18:04 +0000 UTCI've made it a personal policy to not call people or projects out publicly but sometimes, I really just need to vent.
The FOSS community can really frustrate me. For a long time, people would point the finger at Microsoft and spread FUD around how Microsoft is trying to take over Linux, EEE style.
Obviously, that never happened.
Off and on, the same people that fling FUD about Microsoft adjust their catapults and fling FUD about Canonical. And sometimes, it's people in the community that I respect:

Cassidy is a leader and founder of elementaryOS and he should know better than to spread FUD like this.
For reference, the server infrastructure that the Snap Store runs on is proprietary, but both Snapcraft and the code that powers it is all open source.
And yes, you can split hairs and say "well actually, since the Snap Store backend is proprietary, it isn't a true Open Source project!!" but that is literally the "No True Scotsmen" fallacy.
Debates and divisions like this are wasteful, to say the least, it really disappointments me that a leader of a major Open Source project would deliberately spread FUD like this.

I like your perspective, admittedly I've fallen for the FOSS only reasoning before but found that say a company product like Adobe wanted to be on Linux, it would still be proprietary, I am a man of if it works for you do that, I'll call out when it really is just terrible but it's still up to companies, people, etc to actually do better or continue with it
