Scored a new gig!
Added 2020-04-25 02:46:23 +0000 UTCThis year has been nuts.
I've already blogged a few times about my ups and downs finding jobs and getting laid off or losing contracts. But now, I finally have so great news!

I joined up with this tiny company called OmniVector Solutions. It's literally just a pair of guys and they just scored a giant contract with a European automaker helping to fix & manage their massive clusters of supercomputers using Slurm.
The situation that led me to them was so weird. A recruiter I hadn't worked with in ages contacted me about a full-time developer position that I wasn't interested in because it didn't fit my requirements at all. But she said they were using Snapcraft and I was like
whoa, wait a damn second - I want to talk with these madlads
So I talked with them on the phone and they described a totally different position - they were looking for someone with extensive experience with Linux and the Canonical Stack which is basically Juju, Maas, LXD, and Snapcraft.
Guys, I've done videos about Snapcraft and LXD - I know all about this stuff!!
I pointed them at my portfolio which includes my GitHub and YouTube channel and they offered me a consultancy contract on the spot - boom just like that.
So I just completed my first week with them and we already wrapped up work on the new Slurm snap. Since it's a "classic" snap, it won't make it into the snap store anytime soon but it feels super awesome to contribute to FOSS in such a public way!
Thank you all for your support along the way. My open-source and YouTube stuff literally got me this job and I can't thank you all enough for supporting me!

The best advice I can give is - always keep your eyes open for opportunities! Good luck man!
