I re-learned how to draw successfully :'D

Hello my gemlins, happy Tuesday!!

Here's a small preview of what I've been doing since I last posted. I will compile everything until the end of the month and share it as a sketch collection for $5 Patrons :')

The first few days of trying to find my footing were super frustrating, what got me through is being a very, very stubborn Capricorn, so I spent a good few hours just repeatedly drawing the same thing over and over, just to find out what exactly it was that I found so ugly. I'm happy to say I did find out and that I think I fixed it for now, although it probably won't look any different to any of you XD All my issues are just minor things. (In this example it was side profiles!)

After moving on from this first struggle, I sketched faces, heads, over and over. Sometimes using refs, sometimes not. My goal wasn't to really do portrait studies, more like properly observe features and shapes and get them onto paper quickly and efficiently.

The entire week can probably summed up with:  I don't need these results to be good, I need the lessons I learned to be good.

And I think they were good lessons indeed. I'm a slow learner so I have to repeat things about a million times until they settle in my brain, but I do think I picked up a few tiny useful things 😀😀😀 Which feels pretty good.

After half a week of sketchbook doodles and dirty graphite smudges everywhere, I felt confident enough to give the tablet a try again and started doing some small landscape... studies? One of them you can see above!

My plan is to do one or two of them each day to warm up for the next couple of days/weeks, because they're surprisingly fun and for me personally a good way to get into the swing of things without already tiring myself out with humans, when I have a whole day of drawing nothing but people ahead of me :')

I think especially landscape studies will be helpful for me in the whole observe properly division, and to get my shapes clearer and simpler, because it's mostly shapes I'm not used to. Faces are more difficult, because as soon as I look at a photo my brain will start simplifying it into my style, because drawing characters is my main focus every day. Does that make sense? :V Also backgrounds are one of my 5000 weaknesses and I'm determined to turn at least some of those into strengths in this lifetime 😀😀

However, I missed drawing faces real fast, so I doodled some of the peeps above after my quick studies, too XD Again, this is just a fraction of what I've been doing last week, I'll share more soon :)

I'm still not really fully happy with everything but I want to get back into the swing of things now, I feel the familiar itch in my fingers again that I've been waiting for πŸ™ I've been working on the next episode today, finally and I made good progress, so there's definitely a new episode coming your way very soon x) ❀❀❀

(also, fanta told me that 2019 started pretty much the same way: me being in big slump mood and hating everything I do and it took me a few weeks to find my drive again instead of just despising every single stroke I did dsfdsfsd It was kinda reassuring. If I got out of it once I can do it as many times as need be lolol)

I apologise for rambling :x ❀

I re-learned how to draw successfully :'D

PS: For backgrounds, have you ever used SketchUp to help or photographs?
