Channel Update - 2020 Edition
Added 2020-02-09 06:07:42 +0000 UTCThe channel has been doing great this year! Granted, we're only about a month and a half through at this point but still, I'm super happy with how things are going!
So, this post has gotten a little rambly so I'm going to break it up into sections -
Medium
I've been trying to write more on Medium and last week I wrote a big article about how & why I disabled Likes & Dislikes on the channel. If you haven't already, I highly recommend reading it!
As I talked about in other blog posts, I'm going to write more stuff on Medium and I'm probably going to discontinue the actual Egee.io blog in favor of blogging on Medium and posting announcements for community stuff on the Egee.io subreddit.
I made a Medium publication and I'd really like to write a Medium article for each video I do but it takes roughly 2 hours to write a full Medium article and I'm not sure if I will have the time to regularly do that.
Distro Delves & Install.sh
The feedback for the Distro Delves series has been incredibly positive. It seems that people are actually searching for the term "Distro Delves" on YouTube to find the series, which is so freaking awesome. I have tons more distros to review and since there are new releases every year, the series can literally go forever!
I also started a new series that probably flew under the radar - Install.sh. It's basically a name I have given to my "How to run" style of videos. People really seem to connect with the "Series" and "Episode" format and it is really easy to write scripts for them.
Sponsors
I experimented with sponsorships last year and I'm not sure if I'm going to continue doing them in the future.
For starters, they are a lot of pressure. They usually have deadlines and specific requirements on what needs to be said or covered. This is pretty standard for YouTube sponsorships but, it's really not my style.
The audience feedback hasn't been great, either. The video that I did with NordVPN performed quite badly. I don't think the Linux community is the best audience to promote paid products to, to be honest.
Also, if I do want to continue doing sponsorships, I will need to write up a legit contract on my end. The video I did for Hostinger was a disaster and they tried to ghost me after refusing to pay my invoice. They ended up paying, which is why their video is still up.
Egee Gaming & Streaming
The Egee Gaming channel is sort of becoming my playground for gaming, streaming, and experimental videos in general. I picked up over 100 subscribers for that channel in January so people appear to like what I'm doing with it!
I streamed 7 Days 2 Die a couple of nights ago and, despite some weird technical challenges, it went pretty well. I might just stream there from now on, not quite sure yet.
And that's all the updates I have.. I suppose this post is a sort of "Channel Update" post, but that's not what I intended it to be haha.
Let me know if you have any thoughts about the channel, streaming, or basically anything! I make these posts for you guys :)
