Patreon vs Ko-Fi

It's been a little over a month since I created my ko-fi account/page thing. Ko-fi is yet another crow-funding, creator-supporting platform similar to Patreon but geared towards "one-time" donation in the form of ko-fi's (coffee's), sorta kinda like PayPal donations.

A couple weeks after I created my ko-fi page, Patreon released a big UI update that fixed some of the major gripes I had with the service. And while they didn't fix all of them, the blogging portion of the service is orders of magnitude better.

Ko-fi is a really cool platform but I've had a difficult time figuring out where it places. It's like Twitter but not. It's like Patreon but.. not. I think that is ko-fi's biggest problem - it has an identity crisis.

Anyway, I'm going to keep blogging here on Patreon. For the smaller updates and "sneak peeks" of what I'm working on (YouTube related and otherwise), I'm going to post to my ko-fi feed.

You might be asking "why not post updates to Twitter?". Twitter is interesting because I'm followed by lots of different audiences and I want to be mindful about what I post there and to avoid posting things that only a fraction of my followers care about, such as short status updates.
