So about a month ago, a rep from Linode contacted me about a deal involving sponsored videos. This was an exciting development for a few reasons!
At the time I was evaluating cloud options to move the Egee.io game server infrastructure to, a topic I blogged about here. I had literally just determined that AWS was not well suited to my needs and I'd begun researching Digital Ocean, Linode, and Vultr, so I was already familiar with Linode's offerings.
The fact that a big name like Linode was reaching out to me, a little Linux-centric YouTube channel/personality, is a pretty big deal in and of itself.
I've done a psudo-sponsorship before with PureVPN but that didn't pan out because their affiliate system didn't seem to work. I've also done stuff with Amazon affiliate links which were meh at best.
The deal I worked out with Linode is a bit more involved which is cool because it gives the channel a bit more direction in a business sense. And it makes me think of different ways to produce content in a way that people enjoy.

And if you aren't familiar with Linode, they are a Linux-first cloud hosting platform. Their service allows you to create VMs in their cloud using pretty much any Linux distribution you want. And if they don't have the Linux image you want, you can make your own! It's a pretty unique setup.
I think a sponsorship with Linode is a great fit for the channel because they really are Linux focused and provide much of their tooling under open source licenses, including their CLI.
Anyway, 2019 is going to be a big year for the channel. I hope you are excited as I am!
