i have a big watercolour commission to do this month (on a 50 x 60cm canvas 😱) and yesterday i painted a very quick draft to decide on composition and colours to show to my client and get feedback to know what i have to look out for and stuff. while i was waiting for her reply i thought… hm.. …. since i already have my desk full of all the materials….. i could draw something else……? and i found the sketch of the image above that i drew in december but never finished.
so i went to work, changed emma’s face a little bit, spent a couple of hours colouring them verrryy slowlyy while paying a lot of attention to what i’m actually doing and also how the colours and paper are reacting to various techniques….! it sure was a learning experience and i hope to have collected some EXP that i can use to improve my traditional colouring skills 💪
here are some close-ups:

i’m currently putting what i’ve learned to the test with another illustration, this time it’s going to be ignoct, because i miss them and i’m documenting the process to share with you guys later! (unless i mess up terribly and decide to trash it all lol but let’s hope that won’t happen)
also here’s a pic of what my work space looks like (including the very early stages of the ignocts):

i’m beat now, i’ve been drawing for almost 9 hours and i can feel it in my arm LOL traditional art, for some reason, tires my limbs out more than digital ;;;;;
i hope all of you had a nice start into the new week..!!
when i post my super-high-quality-(maybe)-documentation of my watercolour process, is there anything in particular you’d like to know or see? so that i can pay extra attention to that? :3
