The Wheego's Dead. Now What?

How about loaning the weego to the museum that you did the videos from? Since part of your enjoyment is people’s reactions to your car’s. so while you build up for a new battery people can enjoy the wierdness while supporting the museum in these troubled times? Seems better than hiding it away in your garage? it’s YouTube famous! Love the channel, keep up the great work.

On the assumption that changing from LiFePO4 batteries to anything else would be overly complex, I would have thought your best option is recovered second-use cells. There are several companies in the US to supply these after they've been stripped out of dead electronics. I don't know a price for LiFePO4 batteries, but I know you can get Li-ion cells as cheaply as $70/kwh. If you could get recovered LiFePO4 batteries at a similar cost, you'd only be looking at $2000 to fit replacement cells, which is a fair bit better than the $11k you were looking at beforehand.

I absolutely didn't know that. Thanks for the info!

I was going to comment this on YT but I figure it would be more visible here. They do make LiFePO4 18650 cells, so if that's the route you want to go, it would definitely be doable. I'm not sure how much (if at all) cheaper it would be to do it that way, but the option is there.

I used a draw mask around the car and applied a gaussian blur to that

Quick editing question... I see you blurred the mystery car, but what tool did you use to do that? I know Final Cut has a Censor feature but I've only been able to do vaguely round shapes, how'd you do the oddly shaped car?

Zack Schmiesing

Another excellent video. The "restaurant booth seating" that you have is called a banquette.

Wheego go dieselelectric like a locomotive… btw it's important to rotate furniture to get even wear or was that something else?

Thomas Eriksen

I'd love to see you towing around a generator trailer, would probably require a load of fiddling itself to achieve though as the current battery can't be charged fast enough or while the car is moving (if the charger even worked).

Matt Tester

Time to find it a spot at the great car garage in the sky.

The "hard part" is getting SoC back up to the dash, otherwise it's just bolting packs together in the right S/P config and wiring a BMS up. Basically what the Wheego guys did. If the stock BMS could communicate right to the dash at all, that'd be a nice thought :) I think this begs to get a reverse-engineering project going as a youtube collab! Just think, you could have a drag Wheego!

Swap a Suzuki 3 cyl

Noooooooooooooo

I'd love to see you take a salvage leaf/volt/bolt/tesla and stuff the control/battery in there, but it's probably just asking for even more mods to think such things

I think it might be time to stop beating a dead horse and take a visit to the crushers.

Misha Dellinger

That's a nice thought, but it's highly doubtful

Aging Wheels

The poor Wheego. Since the company is still around and you are giving them more publicity then they ever got during production is there any chance they would help out? I mean it's not great publicity but there name is out there now.
