Can I Revive the Wheego?

:(

No. I tried, but no. It looks like it's dead until new batteries can be sourced

Can I Revive the Wheego?

Comments

It would be so cool if you could engine swap it with a Honda engine, or some sort of LPG system on a small 3 or 4 cylinder engine

Graham Burgdorf

They are Winston (thunder sky) 260 ah cells if that helps. I did find some for sale, but they're not exactly cheap and I need like 18 of them. I'll give some more detail in the near future

Aging Wheels

If there was any markings on the cells did you note what they were? I've managed to find similar sized batteries, but without knowing more it is hard to tell which ones will fit and have the correct ratings.

Andy Clements

oh i forgot to add, that if you charged the cells outside, a tiny bit of bowing isnt a problem, as its natural for batteries to build pressure when charged, this is the reason they are quite heavily clamped in the battery pack

József Krisztián Kovács

well, if you dont want to spend a lot of money, but you have time for it, if you force clamp the cells back to normal dimensions they will work for a little while ( how long depends on how bowed out the cells are) but that includes modifying the battery pack to place literal tons of pressure on the cells. Also if you decide to replace the cells, you can use the old cells for your bus, because a bowed out cell is not damaged internally, just the plates become seperated by the pressure and thus the internal resistance of them increases, but for low loads that doesent really matter

József Krisztián Kovács

I wish I would've noted the dimensions of the cells while they were outside of the battery pack. But I forgot. Anyway, you got everything else right. They are quite large and quite expensive cells. I might look up proper ways to test battery cells and try this whole thing over again. That'll wait until I'm ready to spend a couple grand on new cells though. At least half of those cells ballooned a little

Aging Wheels

i figured out the capacity as 260Ah, but dimensions would be still a good thing to have, anyways the bowed out cell is a must replace, because it significantly increases internal resistance and thus basicly handicapping the whole pack, also this effect gets worse as you use it and it heats up also by the looks of it the battery is manufactured by a copany named Winston in china, and a new cell costs around 250-350 usd

József Krisztián Kovács

do you know the dimensions of the cells? also their supposed rated capacity?

Trabant engine connected to a generator to constantly charge the dead battery, the car equivalent of life support.

Matt Tester

Oh no, a spicy pillow. That's never good. Was it charging through regen when it was being towed? Hope it lives a bit longer.

Matt Tester

Sad to see the Wheego like that. I will miss it.

That sucks that it had to be towed home. I'd hate for it to really be dead. It's a really interesting car.

If the BMS modules aren’t talking to the dash anyway, could you just pull out the bad cells? Sure the pack might end up at 100V instead of 115V, but I’d think it’d work.

Get a trabant engine and unconvert the wheego into a normal car again as the next project series

Micah Reid

I feel your pain. I've also had the elation of repairing a car, then almost immediately calling to be towed home.

Weird to watch this after seeing some of the videos leading up to it. I think we all want to believe the little car will live again for no reason other than we have lived with it, through you, for a while now.
