Such an emotionel movie, especially knowing it is based on a true story, and I cried my eyes out once again watching it with you. Sending you a big hug. I can imagine the survivors guild one could have from such a thing, when you are lucky to get out alive and privilidged to just fly back home, when so many weren't that lucky. You have to appriciate what you got every day. I remember watching the news back in 2004, it was horrible. Many danes were there as I remember, since Thailand were and still is a very popular tourist destination. In Denmark there was made a charity single to collect money for the cause a month or two after.

Now I have just finished watching your reaction to it and have cried even more than I did before. It’s a difficult movie to watch but the performances are amazing and the camera work puts you right in the awful experience of fighting for survival alongside the characters. It’s a shock to remember that this isn’t some disaster movie, it really happened to the family and to many, many people who didn’t survive. A former student of mine was in Thailand on the day of the tsunami but not in the part of the country that was affected by it. He was just lucky. I have been to Thailand several times and I always take a moment, looking at the beauty of the country and experiencing the welcome of Thai people to think about this.

2025-02-28 23:12:05 +0000 UTCthis is such a beautiful and painful movie, should be called The Impossible (Not To Cry) FRFR 😭 so glad you commented on the shots in this, LOVE a disaster movie for the scale of the effects and the visuals are always so impressive, but this one always hits different bc of the reality of it; they don’t shy away from pointing out the privilege: countless people lost everything, loved ones, children, homes, children orphaned etc - this family got the best possible scenario out of everyone and the money to just fly away once they found each other, while so many had to stay there bc they had nowhere else to go, no choice. always loved how grounded in reality that aspect of the plot is, bc the happy ending is lovely for them, but it’s so bittersweet and riddled w survivor’s guilt for how much privilege they had over so many others, all in the same terrible situation. that said, after an experience like THAT? zero holibobs ever happening ever again, staying home 24/7 thank you VERY much omfg. tsunami is up there w the biggest fears OF ALL TIME.
