Buffy the Vampire Slayer - Season 2 Episode 17 (FULL REACTION)

Comments

Some behind the scenes info on this episode: He who shall not be named had Angelus kill Jenny whilst in full vamp face as a way to differentiate Angelus' actions from Angel. The inference of course being that Angelus killed Jenny, and not Angel. Angels 'Passion' speech was different in the original draft of the script. This is the original speech, ""Passion, it is born, and though uninvited, unwelcome, unwanted like a cancer, it takes root. It festers. It bleeds. It scabs only to rupture, and bleed anew. It grows, it thrives until it consumes. It lives so, it must die in time. Passion, it drives some to distraction, some to despair, some to vengeance. It drives some to murder and others to madness. Passion is the source of hope and the cause of despair. It is the source of life and the cause of death." Apparently there's a goof with the Latin translation of 'Enter all ye who seek knowledge". Angel says "Formatia trans sicere educatorum", it's meant to be "Ingredit vos qui scienses querites". Only the Italian dub has the correct translation. This is the unheard dialogue when Angel is watching Buffy's reaction to Jenny's murder through the window: Willow: "So was it horrible?" Buffy: "It wasn't too horrible." (phone rings) "Hello?" Giles: "Buffy?" Buffy: "Giles! Hey, we finished the spe—" Giles: "Jenny… Ms. Calendar… She's been killed." Buffy: "What…?" Giles "It was Angel." Buffy drops the phone. Willow: "Buffy?" (she picks up the phone) "Giles?" Giles: "Willow. Angel's killed Jenny." Willow: "What? No… Oh… No…" Joyce: "Willow! My God, Buffy! What's wrong? Has something happened?"

Welcome to the misery that is sometimes Buffy the Vampire Slayer. As others have said this episode is a gamechanger in the show in terms of the where the show can and is willing to go. This is the point where the show really starts to grow up.

This is a pivotal point in the show where you start to see what this show is really capable of. Such a heart breaking but phenomenal episode... and there's still so much more to come.

There are a lot of good episodes leading up to this one, but this is the first time the show really rips your heart out. And then stomps on it. But it's sooooo good. Ive seen it multiple times at this point, and it still breaks me every time.

What a great but awfully sad episode. I'm just glad Jenny got to reconcile with everyone before this happened. The thing I love so much about this show is every damn season gets better and better. Can't wait for more reactions! <3
