Something important to add I think to understand Shane a bit better as well: He is canonically autistic! Rachel Reid (author of the book series) did not intentionally write him as such when she wrote Shane and Ilya's first book (Heated Rivalry which is actually #2 in her Game Changers series). But after hearing many fans saying they felt they saw the signs in that book and after having someone close to her diagnosed (her daughter I think but I could be wrong) she decided to do some more research and began to be more intentional with her portrayal of neurodivergence in her books and it can be seen in other books in the series including Shane and Ilya's 2nd book (#6 in the Game Changers series). She's been quoted on social media saying that "Shane doesn't know he's autistic, but I do". Regarding Shane's autism in the show, all parties involved (Rachel, director Jacob Tierney and actor Hudson Williams) were fully aware and deliberate with their choice to incorporate this fact about Shane into his mannerisms, habits and social interactions. His actor Hudson Williams did a recent interview where he was asked about it and he says that his father is on the spectrum and that's where he got a lot of his inspiration as well! Just sharing because I love that so much. Neurodivergent representation in mainstream tv is still woefully lacking.
