Patreon Exclusives
Added 2023-11-28 02:24:21 +0000 UTCHi, James here. Last month I mentioned I wanted to eventually release the bonus content on the website after having it be exclusive to here for a while. Right now the plan is to let it be exclusive to Patrons for 3 months. Some people have also floated 2 months by me as well. I thought, why not ask the people to whom it would matter most?
I want our patrons to feel like they are getting something worth the price of their subscription so I want to present a few options for you guys.
Option 1: We keep Commentary Patreon Exclusive, we release the Bonus Comics and Illustrations after a 2 month period.
Option 2: We keep Commentary Patreon Exclusive, we release the Bonus Comics and Illustrations after a 3 month period.
Option 3: We release All content to everyone after a 2 month period.
Option 4: We release All content to everyone after a 3 month period.
I want to know what feels most comfortable for the people that support us. We couldn't do this without you, and I want you guys to be involved in the process. If you have any questions Let me know below, or feel free to contact me elsewhere and I'll do my best to get back to you.

Honestly I'm just paying to support a project I love in this post-ad-revenue-supporting-indie-comics era, not because I wanted to feel exclusive! So my vote definitely goes for option 3. The freer this is, the happier I am!

2023-12-01 22:20:38 +0000 UTCalso i stand by the fact that dirk nearly REQUIRED the book of five rings over art of war as a strategy book. this is silly to tell you but i tried to get someone to tell hussie years ago. the art of war has a man killing concubines because he legitimately thinks they are refusing him when he legitimately gave them a "die or die" option; women would be executed anyway for acting like men and he truly did mistake that. or perhaps it was just a test of strategy from the beginning? either way, legitimately, the man would benefit from something written by a man who not only struggled with spirituality and schizophrenia, but was an incredible swordsman from a young age. the art of war is a great example of a strategy book that represents how HE ALREADY went about things, but as i said, i stand by the fact that it would be beneficial for him to get his hands on that book, even if only to make sure that people reading the webcomic don't get lost in all the mythology and spiritual guidance that were "secretly" packaged within. if it's any consolation and won't kill him to hear, i handled what i could for the denizens. they said thank you for giving them new names, but when you make a monster, you make a good one. but that's just my 80 yards. forgive me.

2023-11-30 08:54:22 +0000 UTCmy vote is the least popular but i really enjoyed the slower update times. it was only exciting to look up updates all the time when i was a kid. now im workin and it's a lot to focus on. but i would be happy with whatever you wanna do, because i truly feel like the team is being led in a good direction under a protective banner ig. for lack of anything else to contribute to the discussion

Like the others here I want to help support Homestuck but I think everything should be made available after a couple months to everyone - that way even people that can't afford to help support financially aren't missing out on anything. It might be a good way to get people to support on patreon for the early sneak peak/access but Homestuck should be for everyone <3 . I do understand people wanting to keep some content exclusive because of paying for it and trying to get others to help support etc but ultimately I think everything should be shared. If anything maybe offer the patreons options to vote for things ( kind of like this ) on "what" to release next like give us two or three options of things in the goodie box or maybe even offer a discount on music commissions hehe =P that is mostly a joke but you can make other content that is patreon exclusive or that feels like a perk or benefit for our support. Could even open a redbubble or something and sell tshirts with basic aspect signs and give us a discount code or something xD It's been a long bumpy road with Homestuck and everything related to it but as I sit her in my heart hoodie I wouldn't retcon anything <3 I love this fandom even with the ups and downs. 2023-11-28 17:19:45 +0000 UTCI'm here because I'd like to support you guys with what I can spare, the patron content isn't a bonus I need personally but I can respect from a business decision exclusivity is needed. Still it feels almost anti-HS and for that reason I'm not a fan of exclusivity for only patrons, everyone should be able to share in it but a 2 or 3 month period of waiting to incentivize people is fine I think. I voted 3 but really I don't care either way it was decided via a literal coin flip app lol.

Temporary exclusivity for those who want early access is fine as I understand that the people involved in this endeavor deserve to be compensated and Patreon money will hopefully help, but I feel that given the history of this project and the spirit of Homestuck itself, giving readers eventual access to everything is the way to go.

So at an archival point of view I think it should all be released so it too can survive long term. While also on that topic once we have a years worth of the patreon illustrations I would LOVE LOVE if there was Zines released with the art to purchase as well. I think it's about time we got more PHYSICAL content as well.

2023-11-28 05:26:00 +0000 UTCI think, keeping the commentary, exclusive, incentivizes people to join, but allowing the bonus comics to trickle to the public after a few months is only reasonable. People will always want to pay extra to see behind the scenes content- I upped my membership so I could read the commentary. I think from an economic standpoint you need that incentive. If releasing the commentary wins, it should be majorly delayed compared to the bonus comics- six months instead of three- to try and retain some of that income.
