Ling Guo is ambitious, cunning and extremely smart.
When I first came up with her character, I had the events that would take place in China clearly in mind. I wanted her to be like the cunning concubines of ancient Chinese emperors. Elegant but deadly, ready to do anything to ensure their power and that their child will be the heir.
She came from a lowly background and has slowly risen to her current position. She is incredibly patient and knows how to bide her time.
I put in a lot of thought before writing any scenes she features in. I ask myself, "would she say this like that?" or "isn't that too obvious?". Characters like Ling Guo are trickier to write as her intelligence is limited by my imagination. She might sound astute and cunning to me but incredibly un-cunning to you as the reader.
Ling Guo is intentionally a complicated character to read. Does she actually want to help, or is she only doing this for personal gain? Maybe it's somewhere in the middle? Things may become more apparent as the story progresses, or I will leave it up to you as the player to make your own judgement.
Regardless of her motivations, she is a caring mother and only wants the best for her children. They are her world. Despite one of them being three thousand and twelve and the other being two thousand, two hundred and thirty-seven years old, she still treats them as young adults.
She was also dear friends with Effie and tried to help her navigate the court due to her more naive nature.
I feel that Ling Guo has the potential to be a fascinating character within the story, and I hope that you enjoy what we do with her.
