Lucius - Behind The Scenes (The Seven Realms)

For Lucius, every life has value. But some are worth less than others.

Lucius is the King of Terran and the most influential and renowned vampire throughout history. Very few throughout the seven realms can rival his strength, as shown by his previous domination of five of the seven realms.

I had several characters inspiring me for Lucius.

Appearance-wise, I wanted someone a little like Thandruil from The Hobbit. He doesn't look like a Hulk but still imposes respect with his presence.

Character-wise he's cold and calculated. Before meeting Effie, he was bloodthirsty and enjoyed killing and dominating other realms. It was fun when developing him to put him in the bad guy camp while also trying to make him likeable.

Writing him is fun because he despises everyone except those he considers friends and family. Well, he also respects people who aren't weak.

Despite his severe lack of compassion, he is still a good ruler because he can make the hard decisions for his Realm and understands what is needed for Terran to thrive.

However, Lucius can also have warm emotions and is genuinely in love with Effie. He would burn the Seven Realms in an instant to have her back. So why isn't he doing that now? He's too weak to do so and doesn't want to risk endangering Leyala and Kali by starting another great war.

Lucius regards Atlas highly, and as indicated in Ophelia's monologue in Update 7, a large part of why Lucius held on for as long as he did was because he couldn't bear the thought of Atlas losing someone else close to him.

We learnt that Ophelia was manipulating Lucius, which caused him to betray Effie's trust in the way he did. But Ophelia needed a foundation to cast the spell on him like this.

What do you think? Would he have cheated on Effie had Ophelia not been involved? If he had cheated, would he have stopped when Effie was in pain, as Lucius claims?

We still have plenty of time to see more of him in the later Realms, so we hope that you're looking forward to it as much as we are.

When we commissioned the piece of music for Lucius' Theme, we wanted something to represent Lucius' duality. The man who would do anything for his loved ones and the one that could destroy a realm without hesitation. I'm pleased with how this track turned out.
