Galactic Highway

The warp gates of the Sunrider universe are a great option for quickly navigating between regions of space and form a staple of any merchant's itinerary. Just make sure you're keeping your intel up to date around the other side else that convenience could come with a nasty surprise.

The warp gate is a stabilized, artificial worm hole and can tunnel ships between point A and point B, regardless of what's between the two points. The technology to stabilize and summon a worm hole at will is beyond humanity's current capacity and exists only in theory. A ship's warp drive warps the space in front of a ship so it it can get to its destination in a shorter distance, but requires complicated calculations and even the slightest deviation by unexpected gravitational forces can cause the ship to arrive thousands of light years off course or behind schedule. (Which basically means the time within the ship and the universe de-synchronized in transit, and at warp out, you find yourself further in the future than expected.) This means that ships have to travel in charted space and avoid large gravitational bodies. (AKA - be outside of a planet's gravity well)

any ship can use these gates without having its own warp (jump) drive? that'd be my guess, anyway. not a new idea. such an old idea, in fact, that to me it looks in design like a cross between 'the philadelphia experiment' and 'x3: terran conflict' (okay, showing my age here that i know both of those without having to google search them).

So what's the difference between these gates and for example the Sunrider's warp drive?
