One More Thing: Sapient Span

Greetings Adventurers,

We reach the end of November and it's time for our One More Thing release for the month. We're excited to bring you something very unique that I think could go a long way in making a really interesting encounter for your players. A living bridge that decides who can cross sounds like a pretty fun thing to me!

Design notes from Matthew:
This was actually one of the more interesting creatures to write, because when I was writing about it, I was thinking of it more in the terms of a puzzle or social encounter rather than a combat one. I think that people are very used to seeing every creature as an obstacle to be struck down, but what about when the creature is a pathway? This is something that was very new to me to design, but it was a lot of fun.
The most dangerous thing about this creature isn't actually the damage it does. I specifically put in the tactics session that it might seem weak on damage, but you have to remember the potential gravity this can inflict on players. Fall damage is nothing to joke with in 5E or PF2E so when considering how much damage I wanted the creature to do, I actually toned it down in favor of displacement where possible.
With the potential to buck several creatures off of it using its lurch, I needed to give it some down sides if the encounter goes sideways. The fire and axe vulnerability is a big one for your players. Couple that with its slow speed and retraction and this creature isn't that difficult to kill in all honesty, but then how are they getting across?

It's been another fascinating month of content and we've got another one lined up ahead that we're excited about including collaborations with Stained Karbon Maps and The Fluffy Folio as well as a holiday themed creature that's going to be a wintery blast to make!
