The weird, uncustomized faces of Dark Souls 1.
Added 2021-09-09 17:21:23 +0000 UTCIn trying to experiment with more AI conversions of Dark Souls 1 faces, I realized there's a handful of characters who can't be done. Or, rather, there's no point.
Like the two Darkmoon Soldiers when you plunge Anor Londo into Darkness:

And the Daughter of Chaos, found outside the Bed of Chaos arena:

These characters have no customized face data, so they all share the same generic face. The same is true for Ciaran, which I showed in my most recent video, but at least Ciaran is set to that.
What I mean is that the game can be weird about initializing certain aspects of characters' appearances (it resulted in some wrong haircuts in the first video), but resetting the game can fix this. Ciaran will at least show the generic face when fully-loaded properly.
These above characters, however, never reset properly if you reload the game. What I mean is that if my character was someone else previously, it will keep that person's face forever, no matter how many times you reset.
I first noticed this after trying to get the faces for the Darkmoon soldiers above. This one loaded with the Crystal Knight's face, because I had the Crystal Knight loaded up as my character most-recently before (in the same session):

But looking at them more-closely as they normally appear reveals that they just have the same blank faces as each other:

I find this funny because most fully-helmeted characters have custom faces made, but this handful of NPCs who actually show face didn't get the same treatment.
