V3.1 Side Content pt.1 | Patreon Poll #63

Hey Patrons! With v3.1 starting up soon, in this poll I’m asking you guys what sort of side content additions you might like to see! These are a little vague at the moment, and will likely be more refined over time. I strongly suspect there’ll be another poll next month with more refined options (based on the results of this one), so I’m preemptively calling this part one.

The result of this poll will determine what sorts of side content I focus on in v3.1!

Poll Options

Please vote for all the options that you like, not just for your one favourite! I allow multiple votes as it means that a higher proportion of people will end up voting for the winning choice. Note however that multiple choice polls have been finicky on Patreon for a while, so you may need to refresh the page/app to verify your choices or vote for multiple options.

All patrons are encouraged to share their opinion by commenting and voting, but currently only the votes from Golden+ Supporters are counted when determining a poll winner. Votes from Shattered Supporters are worth double!

New Trinkets: I purposefully designed the trinket category with adding more trinkets over time in mind, and there’s definitely room to add 2 or 3 in this update. I don’t yet have super solid designs, but one idea I think will work well is a trinket that boosts both player and enemy evasion. Such a trinket would encourage more wand use or positional play, but would be banaced to not be an outright detriment for melee players (especially if they use doors).

Hero Lore: With the Additions of the Cleric, it’s finally time to start seriously thinking about hero backstories and other details. While I’m not planning to go super hard on this initially, I do think it would be a good idea to start adding these details incrementally. This will probably take the form of backstory details on the hero info pages, but could potentially include lore documents in the dungeon. I admit that I’m not very confident as a writer (having never really done it!), so taking an incremental approach will give me lots of opportunity to take in feedback and adjust accordingly.

New Rooms: More levelgen variety is always good, especially if it can make the various regions more distinctive. Last time people were hungry for more special rooms though, and more of those is definitely a possibility as well.

More Badges and/or a Challenge: I have various ideas for new one-off badges, including a couple that would be a new challenge for experienced players. A new challenge is also an option, and it would try to add more challenge rather than remove player options.

New Rare Enemies: The game currently sits at 2 rare enemies per region (1 in demon halls), but that could easily be expanded. Especially since the rat skull was added, a few more exotic enemy variations could be fun. (It’s worth noting that I’m aware the big game hunter badge is a bit too hard currently, and I’m planning to soften that up regardless of weather this choice does well or not)

New Equipment: There’s still room for a few more equipment items in non-trinket categories too. The specific shape this may take is a bit up in the air though, I’ll try to come up with some more solid ideas if this does well as a posll option.

I personally wish for another challenge and more variety in direction dungeon generation (rooms).

A new ring that seems normal but then someone figures how to exploit and then you immediately have to nerf!

I feel like more rare enemies would be fun (especially if the white ripper demon is brought back) and hero lore being implemented officially would be amazing.

Gotcha. Keep up the great work! My first Paladin run was RoW -> RoE (+15) and got CoB, hourglass and chains too. It felt a little OP after farming a bunch to get good loot, but I did get sloppy and popped an unblessed ankh in the Yog fight lol. First RoW run where I really took time to farm (probably would have died otherwise). Anyway, tons of fun. Thanks again for the great game! :D

Possibly, but that would be a lot more work than any of the options presented here, it's not really side content material.

I remember there were ideas for a third troll quest when that got revamped. Something like a mushroom forest. It sounded really cool. Is that still in the cards for this year?
