One More Catalog Post | Patreon Weekly #263

Hey Patrons, in this weekly I’ve got some final details to share on the new expanded catalogs! Firstly, there’s a few things to get through:

Firstly, there’s a new Shattered Secrets this week! This one contains more experimental spritework, this time for some of the dungeon’s enemies!

We’ve also got results in for Patreon Poll #54!
- 83% of people felt inventory management was somewhat frustrating, 17% felt it was very frustrating
- 58% of you frequently chasm drop, 42% of you don’t.
- There were no gold+ patrons who felt inventory management wasn’t frustrating
- Patrons who don’t chasm drop were slightly more likely to find inventory management very frustrating
- Higher tier patrons were slightly more likely to chasm drop and to find inventory management very frustrating
The results here are pretty clear, inventory management is a pretty big pain point and people often use chasm dropping to mitigate it. I don’t have a specific plan to address this yet, but I will be making at least some incremental inventory management improvements in v2.5. Several of you also gave written feedback, which I plan to go through as well, thank you!

Lastly, there’ll be an audio Q&A next week! You can ask questions here or in the Patreon discord. Note that I’ll be away over the coming weekend, so the weekly and audio Q&A will probably be a little delayed.

I ended up spending most of last week still working on the catalogs, it ended up being quite an undertaking!

Firstly, the equipment and consumable tabs are now totally filled in, with 315 items between them! This includes item-like effects such as enchantments:

There are two new tabs now as well, which contain a lore section (moved from the bottom tab) and a bestiary! The bestiary includes almost every entity in the game, including plants and traps:

All of this brings the catalog to a whopping 491 entries, almost quintuple the number of entries in v2.4! I wasn’t planning for it to become this huge initially, but I think the time investment was well worth it.

Included in this new UI is also some statistical information. The catalog will keep track of each time an enemy has been defeated, trap has been triggered, or plant has been trampled. I’m also probably going to have it count each time a consumable has been used, or equipment has been upgraded too.

This catalog also comes with 9 badges: 4 for specific things within each category, and 5 for filling in certain numbers of overall entries. These replace the old badges for the previous catalog UI and run the gamut from bronze all the way to diamond for filling in every single entry.

Comments

I have no knowledge of the platform unfortunately, I signed up several years ago when one or two people had asked me to set up an account there. It still works but I am not active on the platform. I don't like the fact that Patreon is proprietary and profit-driven, but they're the only place with a feature set and discoverability that's remotely close to fulfilling our needs.

Q&A Question: Just a hypothetical; Lets say at some point later SPF gets ridiculously popular and you're getting close to finishing the game. However, Microsoft wants to buy the game(ik ik, its open source, but imagine they can) before you can finish it and are offering $2.5b. What would you do?

Devious Dangerous Penguin

Ah, liberapay... I remember them. Back then they sent mail through anti-FOSS (aws) services and retaliated against *their* failure to handle SPF properly with a ban... But the creator of the avatar I use swears by them, so can't be all bad.

Currently I'm using worn shortsword and cloth armor, with each enchant/glyph/curse using its own glow as well.

There's a category for rare enemies, and one for quest enemies/bosses As for other platforms, I am on librepay, but it's basically just a wrapper around sending me money via paypal, and there are no benefits.

Love the UI. It’s clean and simple. What sprite did you use to represent enchantments?

allowiscous

Looks excellent - makes me curious how you sorted the geomancer - or a chaos elemental. Aside - since patreon took to insulting us with that cloudflare verification crud: You on other support platforms?
