V2.1.0 Side Content | Patreon Poll #39
Added 2023-03-14 20:43:17 +0000 UTCHey Patrons!
With v2.0.0 finally out, I’m now looking into what content I want to put into v2.1.0. I want it to be a fairly light and quick update, but currently the only actual new content I have in mind are the two exotic enemy variants you guys voted on previously. There is obviously room for a little more, so I’ve compiled a few ideas for fairly simple additions that could also be included in v2.1.0 without making it take too long.
The top 1-2 choices will be implemented into v2.1.0!

Please vote for all the options that you like, not just for your one favourite! I allow multiple votes as it means that a higher proportion of people will end up voting for the winning choice.

A New Challenge
There is still quite a bit of player desire for a new challenge, but previously this option hasn’t done too well in polls. I’m going to be a bit more specific this time: I’d like to add a challenge which introduces a real-time element to the game. While playing there would be a real-life timer that ticks down, with a penalty (probably recurring damage) if it goes into the negatives. More time would be awarded as you continue to discover new depths, or complete quests or boss encounters. The goal here is to introduce some time pressure, but the amount of time you have would be more geared towards regular experienced players than speedrunners.
Note that the timer would not count down if the game isn't running (e.g. you've switched to another app), there might at most be a small penalty to discourage frequent app swapping.
More Extensive Hero Changes
While v2.1.0 is mainly going to focus on tweaks to the Duelist, I could easily extend that to the other heroes too. In particular I think there are a few talents, and maybe a subclass mechanic or two that could be evaluated and improved upon. Major candidates include the scroll of upgrade talents and the freerunner.
Shop Improvements and Buyback
Yep, it’s this one again! I’ve heard from several people that they rather like how shops spread out the purchasable items, so I’m reconsidering moving the entire shop experience into an interface, but there is clearly room for shop UI improvements regardless. I’d like to make shops look a bit more structured (without removing purchasable items from the game world), and improve the shopkeeper interface to add support for things like buyback, and perhaps conversations in the future.
Weapon Additions
With the Duelist freshly introduced, there’s new appetite for more weapons! In particular, players really seem to want a higher tier weapon that has a similar lunge effect to the rapier, and there may be room for one more weapon elsewhere as well. A rapier equivalent weapon might show up at tier-4, as there isn’t currently a defensive weapon option there.
Better Attack VFX
Lastly, while I think the Duelist is working well mechanically, there’s no denying that she, as well as melee weapons in general, aren’t particularly flashy compared to things like wands. It might go a long way to add some simple melee combat vfx to the game, based on the weapon being used. Watabou actually once showed off a little experiment on twitter that nicely hightlights now this might look for slashing weapons: https://twitter.com/watawatabou/status/825202225534283777

Yup shop keepers don’t like exploding skellies or lightning strikes lol

2023-03-18 07:36:27 +0000 UTCShop UI: "perhaps conversations in the future"...like a little mention to clue people into the fact that they should be pretty careful if they decide to start fighting inside the shop? Of course I made that mistake once lol.

2023-03-15 16:17:54 +0000 UTCI'd like to put in a different suggestion. I really like the duelist and think she's a great add to the game. However, I'm finding myself wanting carry around all these weapons! How about a new bag-type item like a weapon harness? It might be conceptually and physically silly to have a halbred, great axe, staff and crossbow strapped to your body, but I am envisioning it more like a bag of holding that only holds weapons. Much like the existing bags.

2023-03-15 15:10:43 +0000 UTCnew weapons is the most immediately flashy of the bunch - if i'm not mistaken, tier 2 still has one less weapon than the rest, unless pickaxe now takes that spot. for the demand for a higher tier lunge, i also think it would make a lot of sense thematically for dragon kick to be able to lunge like the rapier or attack at close range as it does now, but it would have to be rebalanced around that (perhaps as its empowered effect). i think i'm voting for new weapons and hero tweaks, as revisiting and cleaning up old things is always a good thing. shop changes are also under this category, but have less direct impact on gameplay and so are less exciting of a prospect. the challenge i can see being fun for some, but i don't know if i'm the type of player who would play that, and the weapon animations i just don't know at this point. there would have to be a bunch of unique ones that all look good, and i have no idea what that would look like or how well it would come out in a small update. tl;dr: new weapons, hero adjustments

2023-03-14 22:57:40 +0000 UTCFor me it's a tie between new weapons and weapon animations the duelist would definitely benefit from a lunge -weapon but I do agree some vfx would really heighten the experience of SPD

2023-03-14 20:54:37 +0000 UTCI play very intermittently so for me the new challenge addition would need to stop the clock if I wasn't actively playing.
