Subclass Preferences | Patreon Poll #35

Hey Patrons!

Development work is currently going well on the Duelist, and the most significant thing I’ve yet to iron out are her subclasses. To help me along that process a bit, and also to help determine future subclass content direction, I thought I’d poll what you guys think of the current subclasses in the game.

Note that you’re voting for the subclasses that you like the most, not the ones you want to see changed! Please vote for any subclass that you really enjoy, not just your favourite. This will help me better decide what players want to see in a subclass, and will help me identify the ones that are least liked right now.

---

Please vote for all the options that you like, not just for your one favourite! I allow multiple votes as it means that a higher proportion of people will end up voting for the winning choice.

All patrons are encouraged to share their opinion by commenting and voting, but currently only the votes from Golden+ Supporters are counted when determining a poll winner. Votes from Shattered Supporters are worth double!

Berserker

Recently adjusted. Lets the Warrior channel his inner rage into bonus damage and tankiness based on the damage he takes (before armor mitigation).

Gladiator

Unlocks a variety of special moves for the Warrior has be builds combo by striking enemies successively.

Battlemage

Encourages investment in the Mage’s staff by giving it bonus enchantment-like effects based on the imbued wand.

Warlock

Rewards a mixture of weapon and wand use, by letting the mage mark targets with magic and sustain by physically damaging them.

Assassin

Lets the Rogue build up huge bonus damage by staying invisible and preparing a deadly strike.

Freerunner

Gives the Rogue bursts of bonus movement speed after he builds momentum by running.

Sniper

Unlocks a special attack with the Huntress’ bow, after she has hit a target with a thrown weapon.

Warden

Grants a variety of plant-based bonuses to the Huntress, including seeing through grass and various improved plant effects.

Comments

i like the gladiator a lot because of the new options given in melee- the combo moves are really interesting to switch up the way you fight close up! both mage subclasses i absolutely love too. the battlemage is fantastic for shielding yourself and tearing enemies up in melee while recharging your artifacts and your staff for more zaps/shielding. the warlock is super interesting where you are rewarded for combining wand combat with melee combat, and the healing almost makes you self-sustainable in melee on its own! with some good items it can definitely keep you alive, but you have to activate it first with your wands. i dont play huntress a lot, but sniper and warden are both super interesting. i love the sniper's combo attacks with her bow and how she synergises with throwables, and i love the warden's synergy with darts and grass.

I love all the subclasses, but I definitely have a bias towards or against some due to my own personal playstyle. I think the berserker rework is really great, but it's never one I'm inclined to use - I rarely play as the warrior, and I find the gladiator more fun. I also really love both the warlock and battlemage, but I definitely tend to prioritize the battlemage because I enjoy the gameplay that comes with wands. The rogue I go 50/50 on - I think freerunner is more reliable, but when I get the right items, the assassin is more fun for me. And of course, I enjoy both the warden and sniper, but tend to choose the warden because of all the options that subclass opens up.

Tbh I never really tried berserker and freerunner. They sound kinda lame on paper, just a simple stat buff. And since they don't synergize with equipment or context (like how I'd prioritize sniper if I have a good ranged weapon, warden if I have sandals, warlock for good weapon, battlemage for specific wand) I always end up picking the spicy one after the bossfight.

Qwel

i like all of them decently, but i definitely feel like there are a few that are a bit less fun for me, so i'm leaving out those. fwiw, my current favorite subclass is the warden. the seed effects change the way you play by a lot and open up tons of new utility options, and the ability to see through grass is invaluable
