A New Rare Enemy! | Patreon Poll #16
Added 2021-04-06 16:32:36 +0000 UTC(apologies for the double post, I accidentally set this poll up as a regular text post initially, and so there was no way to vote!)
Hey Patrons!
Since v0.8.0 the distribution of enemy types is pretty even throughout each region, with 5 typpes each (4 in the demon halls if you count rippers and spawners as one). The distribution of rare enemies is a bit less even though, with the prison and halls each getting 1 while the other regions have 2. So, for this poll I’m aiming to improve that a bit, by offering you guys some options for a new rare enemy variant in the prison or the halls!
The winner of this poll will determine which rare enemy variant I add in a future update!
---
Please vote for all the options that you like, not just for your one favourite! I allow multiple votes as it lets polls be more flexible, and a higher proportion of people will end up voting for the winning choice. All patrons are encouraged to share their opinion by commenting and voting, but only the votes from Golden+ Supporters are counted when determining a winner. Votes from Shattered Supporters are worth double!
Unstable DM-100s
The DM-100s were the dwarves’ first foray into engineering autonomous defense robots, and as a result their manufacturing process wasn’t always perfect. Some DM-100s were made with faulty electricity systems that would eventually fail, frying some of their internal circuits and arcing electricity randomly. These faults were rare, but the DM-100s in the prison have also been roaming for a long time…
These DM-100s can’t attack the player, but instead move at high speeds and arc electricity in a predictable pattern around themselves, just like one of DM-300’s pylons. Defeating them will be all about smart positioning, as avoiding the shocks would mean avoiding damage entirely. For your trouble, these DM-100s would be guaranteed to drop a scroll of recharging in addition to regular DM-100 loot.
Spectral Necromancers
While Skeletons are a necromancer’s bread and butter, some prefer to look into other less corporeal minions. Spectral necromancers have chosen wraiths as their minion of choice, which aren’t as powerful but are much more numerous and disposable.
Instead of focusing on a skeleton and buffing it up, Spectral Necromancers will just keep making wraiths until they’re killed. Thankfully, these summoned wraiths aren’t quite as tough as the ones you’d normally encounter in the dungeon. Killing a spectral necromancer will kill all of the wraiths it has summoned. As a reward, spectral necromancers drop a guaranteed scroll of remove curse, in addition to the regular chance at a health potion.
White Ripper Demons
These special ripper demons have white skulls and retain a link to the demon spawner that summoned them. This gives them slightly increased stats and greatly enhanced durability. These ripper demons will be impossible to kill as long as the spawner is feeding energy into them!
These rippers will collapse just like ghouls and won’t fully die until their spawner is also destroyed. The amount of time they stay downed for is dependant on when they were last downed, so quickly downing them twice will put them out of commission for a little while. For your trouble, these ripper demons will drop a guaranteed health potion when they are eventually slain. Of course, you could just knock them into a pit, but then say goodbye to that health potion as well.
Note that to prevent health potion farming, only the first 10 or so rippers that a spawner generates will have a chance at being white.

I *immediately* thought: All Of Them!

2021-04-07 08:34:57 +0000 UTCThe white ripper demon sounds like a lot of RNG. Stumbling onto one may be entirely beneficial (if you're already hitting the spawner) or drain half your health potions if you can't find the spawner quickly enough You could nerf his stats and revive cooldown, but maybe a way to prevent that RNG is to have a visible ray coming from the spawner to the demon when it revives. That way poeple have a general direction to run to (would be funny having them coming back with gargoyle wings out of the pit)
