Top Gun (1986) * FULL LENGTH REACTION

Another Tom Cruise movie!

I completely understand why it's a very well loved movie, and why people would be so excited over the announcement of a sequel being made like 35 years later!

I'm really excited to see "Top Gun: Maverick" now!!

It's interesting, because I feel like I appreciate movies a lot more on a second watch. The first watch, I try to understand what is going on, then the second time that I watch a movie, I can really appreciate the characters. I'm looking forward to seeing this one a second time!

For this style of reaction, you need your own copy to watch the movie.  You can set picture in picture by right clicking twice on the video and selecting "Picture in picture". The right clicking twice is a bit tricky, because you have to right click, then move your cursor so it's not on the menu, then right click again

- Vero 🥰

Thank you so much everyone for your support, you are amazing!!

I couldn't do this without you <3

It seems like he's had a great career. I hope he had an equally good life and was a good person

Verowak

RIP Val Kilmer, I found out yesterday the actor passed away at 65 years old.

Christopher Palmer

Soon 😊

Verowak

I wonder when we are going to get Vero's reaction to Top Gun Maverick?

Christopher Palmer

No one knows except for Tom Cruise! It was originally called Top Gun 2... Joseph Kosinski suggested it be changed to Top Gun: Maverick!

fire12wife

I wonder what Tony's script was originally going to be for TopGun Maverick? if he had lived would it have debut in 2018 or 2019 instead?

Christopher Palmer

Plan is next month!!! I have a couple of weeks of super busy work, then it lets up 😁

Verowak

Oh my gosh, I can't wait for you to watch Maverick now!

Barry Hammock

I've seen the original Top Gun hundreds, maybe thousands, of times... and it was only recently that I realized they put Cougar's old RIO, Merlin, with Maverick for the final mission! HOW DID i MISS THAT?!?!? lol!

fire12wife

It's just building up anticipation for us all! LOL!

fire12wife

Exactly! They were all incredible! They all really went through it for their roles!

fire12wife

If the actors dropped out, then clearly they would have been right for the part anyways! 🤣

Verowak

Everyone is hyping up the sequel so much, I'm so insanely curious to see it!!! I wish I wasn't so busy lately so I could give it a watch already 🤣

Verowak

Thanks! It makes perfect sense that the recruitment would jump after this movie was made, and it still amazes me just how much of an impact movies can have on us!! That is definitely a spoiler, since I only knew Tom Cruise was in the sequel. Not all sequels have the characters from the first movie, but obviously Tom Cruise being in the sequel is a given. It's like if someone says "This actor from Saw 1 shows up again in Saw 2" or something. The vast majority of advertisement for Top Gun: Maverick only shows Tom Cruise, and it's not advertised as "Tom Cruise and Val Kilmer team up again", the focus seems only on Maverick. Especially for someone who has just seen Top Gun recently, I wasn't exposed to any information being shown when the movie was being released. Similarly for Terminator 2, I wasn't aware of the plot twist that everyone who saw the trailer was aware of. So someone who would say the info from the trailer before I saw Terminator 2 would be a spoiler, even if it's shown in the trailer. It's definitely WAY more fun for me going into a movie with minimal knowledge, and being surprised at who I get to see again.

Verowak

Then this is a rare case where the sequel being made 20+ years later isn't a flop!! I would disagree with there not being a plot point until the bad guys, to me it's all about Maverick's development throughout the whole movie. The bad guys at the end is a great way to really show how much he's changed since he can be relied on to not act recklessly in a serious situation. It ties up the final conflict of the movie, between him and Iceman, since Iceman feels he can't trust Maverick for support in aerial combat. I do think I would need to watch it a few more times to better be able to analyze the plot though since it always takes me a while to get what's going on, so I can miss important aspects that are shown at the beginning of a movie lol

Verowak

31 years!!! Wow congrats, that's absolutely amazing 🥰 Finding someone (or people for those who aren't interested in relationships), that you really connect with comes in all shapes and forms. You never know when you'll meet a lifelong friend/partner. Sometimes it can be when you're 16, other times when you're 62! I'm so happy that you were able to meet your husband at a young age and are still happy together after all these years.

Verowak

Giving details about Val Kilmer's real life is not giving anything away. Nor is saying that they used A.I. software to assist him.

McShades

After you've seen Top Gun: Maverick (2022), there are a ton of YouTube videos of the new cast from the movie, training in the jets and talking about how crazy it all was! The actual pilots that worked on the movie as consultants, actually had a bet going for how many of the actors wouldn't be able to get through all of the training, and drop out before filming... none of them did! Most of them lost the bet! LOL!

fire12wife

Yeah, Tom Cruise said he told Val he wouldn't do the sequel without him!

fire12wife

Sorry, James, I didn't mean to hijack your comment... I love your username and picture! So cool!

fire12wife

My username just is what it says... I'm the wife of a Firefighter/EMT, and 12 is his badge number!! I'm also an EMT, but my main job is being a hairdresser! I met my husband while I was in high school at age 16, and he was at the Fire Academy at 20 years old. We were 19 and 23 years old when we got married, and we've been married for 31 years next month! Everyone told us we were too young, yet here we are all these years later, still very happily married! We have one son, who is 28! All 4 of my siblings have marriages 20+ years as well! We have all been so incredibly blessed! The divorce rate is very real, so we don't take it for granted! Finding your person isn't always an easy thing, but I promise there are good ones out there, and having a great marriage does actually happen! Oh... ironically, our parents divorced while we were little kids, and they are both on their 4th marriages, lol! I guess we all learned what NOT to do, from them! LOL! 🤣🤣🤣

fire12wife

I was 11 when Top Gun (1986) came out, but my dad didn't let me go with him to see it! My cousin took me though... lol! My dad's a pilot and loves all things aviation! He also never watches a movie twice... except the Top Gun movies! He could not wait for the sequel and the pandemic pushing back the release date was killing him! Tom Cruise didn't want to release it until it could be done in theaters. He said this movie was made for the theaters and it's not the same without it... so we waited 3 MORE long years! He said making this sequel was like trying to hit a bullet with a bullet! I'd say they nailed it! The director for the first movie, Tony Scott. was initially the director for the sequel, but in 2012 he committed suicide. Two years later they started over with Joseph Kosinski. New script, new story. There are a lot of nods to Tony in Top Gun: Maverick in the way certain things were shot... the lighting, the amber color, and mood of the film. Let's see what looks familiar to you when you watch the sequel!

fire12wife

Sure, but you're giving details about a scene and also assuming that Vero is up to date on all of the marketing that was done before release.. she has mentioned countless times that she likes going in blind.

jim Howe

That Val Kilmer is in the next film?, I guess if you close your eyes during the opening credits, it might be. It shows his name within 15 seconds of the movie starting. I was just giving some background info on his real life. Plus, it was announced several times before the movie even came out in theaters.

Another awesome reaction! This soundtrack for Top Gun (1986) is one of the best of all-time! Tom Cruise didn't want to do a sequel to Top Gun until they had a story worth telling, and until they could put cameras in the jets. The sequel cast had to go through flight training to get them used to flying with all of the g-forces. The Navy made them all pass a water emergency test before they could step foot in the jets. The footage from the jets for Top Gun: Maverick (2022) is INSANE! Top Gun has always been in my top 5 of all-time, but now Top Gun: Maverick is my #1 of all-time! Buckle yourself in for this sequel.... it's INCREDIBLE! I can't wait to talk to you about it!

fire12wife

I mean, that's a full spoiler, no?

jim Howe

Great Reaction video. Top Gun was the first movie to have the Navy participate in it, the Navy Pilots did all the flying, in exchange the Navy basically used this movie as a recruiting tool and recruitment jumped big time after this movie came out. All the music (except for a couple of old songs) was written specifically for the movie. Several years later Val Kilmer (who plays Ice Man) got throat cancer and lost most of his ability to talk, so when the sequel (Mavrick) was being planned, Tom Cruise insisted they bring back Val Kilmer, they used A.I. voice software to help Val Kilmer say his lines in Maverick.

McShades

You'll love the sequel, I bet. 🛦

AuntVes

Great reaction! Classic movie, however the sequel is 100x better in my view. Rotten tomatoes seems to agree. Can’t wait to see your reaction to that one. The issue I have with this one is that there doesn’t seem to be a plot point until the tail end when they’re like “oh hey, there’s bad guys over there that we gotta go fight for some reason.” Nothing beats those 80’s vibes though. I love that decade. Aliens, Top Gun Maverick, and Terminator 2 are all amazing sequels that I feel are better than the originals.

Bruce Wesley

So this is the inspiration for your username and profile! It's always so neat knowing where people got those from :D No worries about not have extra info, I personally really enjoy learning what people loved about a movie. Just which scenes stood out to them, or if the music did, or what character(s) they really enjoyed!! That's the kind of stuff that I can't find out on my own 🤩 I did notice Tim Robbins for like a split second when I was reviewing the edit haha Definitely a blink and you miss type of situation.

Verowak

Yay spoofs! hahaha

Verowak

Thanks for another fun reaction. This is the movie that inspired my “f14sidewinder” username and profile pic - you are correct, I’m not very creative 😆. With the Maverick/Goose relationship this is a really fun action movie with a lot of heart. It does have such a great soundtrack, really gets the blood pumping. I’ve seen it way more times than I should have at this point, I blame all the reaction channels. Something to look out for during a second watch is Tim Robbins as Merlin (Cougar’s and Maverick’s second rio), blink and you’ll miss him. I wish I could be one of those people who drop in lots of extra info but I’m not that well informed and just too lazy to go looking, sorry. I really hope you enjoy Top Gun: Maverick, for me it’s up there with T2 and Aliens as one of the very best sequels.

James Hadden

Awesome! Now you can watch 'Hot Shots!'.. the brilliant spoof of this film
