Aside from that, I wasn't expecting this movie to be so amazing, especially seeing Samwise the Brave like that!!! 🤣🤣
I love the balance of drama and comedy, and I think is a great way to ease into Adam Sandler comedies (maybe?).
A solid story peppered with comedy throughout. Seeing everyone care so much for Lucy is really admirable 🥰
For this style of reaction, you need your own copy to watch the movie. You can set picture in picture by right clicking twice on the video and selecting "Picture in picture". The right clicking twice is a bit tricky, because you have to right click, then move your cursor so it's not on the menu, then right click again

I've heard of all of those, except for Bulletproof. I'm very curious though since it sounds very different than most of his other films!!

2025-03-12 14:53:31 +0000 UTCI do know one trivia fact, the movie was originally called "50 first kisses" but because Drew Barrymore had a movie "Never been kissed" they changed kisses to dates. My favorite Adam Sadler movies: Billy Madison Happy Gilmore Big Daddy Water Boy Wedding Singer Click Bulletproof Most of his newer stuff I"m not a fan of, IMO they just don't have the same comedic magic that his early stuff had.

In this movie it’s about mental illness and how it’s handled, in “Click” it’s about taking time to enjoy life than rush through it, in “Big Daddy” it’s about what it means to be a parent, and in “Billy Madison” it’s about the importance of education and responsibility. Take a look at some of his other movies and you start to notice they’re not always stupid comedies.

Plus, so many Merchant-Ivory films in my formative years gave me a more European sense of human relations than the Deep South of the U. S. would've offered me, otherwise. 🙄

I suck at recognizing people that either change facial hair, or age 😅 20 years can change a person a lot, and if I've only seen them in 1 thing, the odds are SOOO low 🤣 I love secondary characters, they flesh out the world so well! They can really make a movie amazing

It seems that Drew Barrymore is someone you enjoy watching, she makes Adam Sandler more tolerate for you (or the movies they star in together are toned down which makes them more up your alley). This was such a great and unexpected movie, I was thinking it would mostly be comedy 😅

Sean Astin’s character was my favourite secondary comic character, although the competition wasn’t great in that area. Always a pleasure to see Dan Aykroyd in anything, I felt certain you’d recognise him, but I guess it’s different for me having seen him dozens of times since the 80s. So many nice characters in this one making it a perfect comfort movie.

This is probably my favourite Adam Sandler movie, although a lot of that is due to Drew Barrymore, which is probably why my second favourite is The Wedding Singer. These are the only two I’ve seen in recent years so my memory of some others is pretty vague, but I do think his performance in this may well be toned down comparatively. I have a very vague recollection of also enjoying the tone of Spanglish so I might need to give that a rewatch soon - pretty sure I really enjoyed it first time around. I’ve only seen one of his more recent movies and thought it was pretty terrible, which came as no surprise since I enjoyed his prior stuff less and less with each release over the years, with a single notable exception - Blended (see above reasoning).

I stopped watching his stuff after 'Click' (you definitely 100% should watch that one!).. and only recently watched 'Uncut Gems' from 2019 (great film). A list of films of his that I think are worth watching (including the films mentioned above): 'Billy Madison' 'Happy Gilmore' 'The Waterboy' 'Big Daddy'
