Gladiator (2000) * FULL LENGTH REACTION

The winner of the Patreon "Best Picture Winner" poll!!

The. Soundtrack!!!!! One of many Hans Zimmer soundtracks that I've heard many times before, but this time... in the movie 🤣

Joaquin Phoenix was so good in this (at being so despicable!!). Russell Crowe was also amazing. Both of them made such good contrasting characters. A pleasant surprise from Albus!! That voice is the only reason that I recognized him.

So much tragedy!! But in the end, Quintus did the right thing.

This is the kind of epic movie that I absolutely love seeing. It's so cinematic 🥰

For this style of reaction, you need your own copy to watch the movie.  You can set picture in picture by right clicking twice on the video and selecting "Picture in picture". The right clicking twice is a bit tricky, because you have to right click, then move your cursor so it's not on the menu, then right click again

Thank you so much everyone for your support, I couldn't do this without you 🥰

Gladiator (2000) * FULL LENGTH REACTION

Comments

For me, these are the definitive telling of the Musketeers saga.

Miles E Coburn

True. But 2 decades later? Given Hollywoods track record of stuff being done decades after the fact. I am not optimistic Want to make a sword and sandal flick. Fine. Make a movie about Ceaser conquering Britian, or the Gauls or his march on Rome. Or the Punic wars with Hannibal . Or Pompey conquering the East. Or Varus lost legions in Germania. etc. The screen writers have more than 6 centuries of stuff to choose from to form a backdrop for the story. A movie while good as I am sure Glad 2 will be. Will not be compared to a masterpiece. Carve your own path screenwriters. Is my point

I have an off-the-wall suggestion based on your love of Gladiator: THE QUICK AND THE DEAD (1995). Directed by Sam Raimi. (It's not on the grand scale of Gladiator, so it's not similar in that way. I won't say any more, as I don't want to get into spoiler territory.)

WastedPo

Just a quick note, it's not a remake or a reboot

Verowak

Highest bidder gets the position?! Well what could possibly go wrong with that 🤣

I'm not sure if I knew that "Black Hawk Down" was a Ridley Scott/Hans Zimmer collaboration, but I'm excited for that one!

Verowak

Thanks for the recommendations! I completely forgot about the three musketeers, so that could be fun!

Verowak

If you liked Oliver Reed's performance, then I would suggest: "The Three Musketeers" (1973 version) & "The Four Musketeers" (1974) part 2, not a sequel both with stacked casts including a young Christopher Lee (later played Count Dooku/Darth Tyranus & Saruman the White Wizard)

In real life, after the death of Commodus the commanders of the Praetorian Legion auctioned the position of emperor in the Forum to the highest bidding claimant, which led to "The Year of Five Emperors" with a series of successions of Caesars holding Rome with the backing of the Praetorians who got paid inauguration bonuses each time there was a new Caesar, while the field armies in the outer Empire each put forward their own general to rule by force of arms. Sounds a bit like Kharkov, Thrawn, and the other Grand Admirals and Grand Moffs after the death of Palpatine, hmmm?

JAKH

For the fangirl in you: "Black Hawk Down" (2001) *True Story* directed by Ridley Scott, music by Hans Zimmer cast stacked with every actor who was in his early 20's at the time plus some older faces

JAKH

Another movie about the reign of Commodus which I always thought was better: "The Fall of the Roman Empire" (1964) Sophia Loren, Alec Guiness, Christopher Plummer, Omar Sharif

JAKH

Well, I do not have tons of money laying around to go to a theater or pay for how many streaming serviced. I might watch it, but given the Hollywood track record the last 20 years on remakes or reboots..........It will not be opening night! lol

Daniel Looney

I wasn't aware that the film was released yet. Nonetheless, I'll still watch it when it becomes available since I want to make my own opinion.

Verowak

This film is still relevant today. Quintas (new private in Iraq or Afghanistan) They should know when they are conquered (beaten) etc. Maximous (me and other SNCO's) Would you? Would I? But as Tyrion would say. "Those are brave men knocking on our door. Lets go kill them!". Not, that there is no long term problems that come from that. Just remember. Strength and Honor. .......so much for the might, majesty and glory of Rome. :(

Daniel Looney

Do not watch Gladiator 2. Hollywood is just out of ideas. They are just hey this was a good film and it has been 2 decades lets remake it. I am for remakes if let down by bad acting, or bad special effects due to budget or tech reasons. This film is not in those categories.
