Chernobyl Episode 3 * FULL LENGTH REACTION

What an absolutely horrible experience the widow has gone through.

I'm happy we're slowly finding out more and more information.  They're doing a fantastic job at just giving us enough information to make us want more!

And surprise, surprise, they are being watched and followed by the KGB.  This is all kinds of messed up.

For this style of reaction, you need your own copy to watch the episode.  Also know there is an extension that allows you to do Picture-in-Picture in case you are interested: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/picture-in-picture-extens/hkgfoiooedgoejojocmhlaklaeopbecg?hl=en

Chernobyl Episode 3 * FULL LENGTH REACTION

Comments

I like recognizing actors across shows! Also good to see that casting directors like some actors and want to put them in their shows often!!

I can only imagine future humans digging this up and not taking the burial seriously, so they'll open it all and be in for a surprise lol

No spoilers. Yes, in the opening of the 1st episode, Legasov said that Dyatlov was sentenced to prison. Yes, Dyatlov was the control room supervisor in the 1st episode that kept saying that it was a feed water tank rupture and denying that the core exploded. Yes, Dyatlov was the patient in Moscow Hospital Number 6 who told Ulana that if she did not have a butter and caviar sandwich to leave his room.

No spoilers. For the funeral, the coffins were lined with lead to contain residual radiation, then sealed in galvanized, tinned, or stainless steel sarcophagi to protect the coffins from coming in contact with soil and water, which might decay the coffin causing a leak. The concrete is to protect the metal sarcophagi from contact with soil and water which might cause them to rust and compromise their integrity. The concrete is special waterproof "hydrolic" concrete that does not allow water to seep through. If you look closely you can see that the metal sarcophagi are set on concrete beams so that they are not touching the soil on the bottom. The poured concrete then fills in under them. The same setup was used in the US for one of the scientists at the Manhattan Project who was exposed to a massive, lethal dose in an accident in 1945. It was depicted well in the movie "Fat Man and Little Boy" (1989)

No spoilers. We met a new army general this episode. At the Commission meeting where Boris and Legasov are reporting progress, one of the generals asks how long will the clean up take and how many men will be needed. This is Major General Nikolai Tarakanov. We will see him quite a bit more. He is another "take care of my men" type of officer. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nikolai_Tarakanov

Yes you will have noticed a few actors from this show who went on to have roles in Andor as well. The casting directors (Nina Gold and Martin Ware) were involved together or separately in shows like Game of Thrones, The Crown, Chernobyl, Andor, etc. Besides Stellan Skarsgård (Boris Scherbina/Luthen Rael), you have the crew chief for the miners (Alex Ferns), who was Sgt. Linus Mosk (Syril Karn’s security corps buddy) in Andor, and also the Senior Engineer Toptunov (Robert Emms) was the ISB supervisor that was part of Luthen’s monologue scene.

No spoilers. At the end, it was not a further evacuation. The army officers were hand-delivering conscription notices for the Spring 1986 intake, then in the gym the young men were reporting for their mandatory service. This is part of the "750,000 men" that Boris said were needed for the clean-up.

I was very surprised that they were on board with doing what needs to be done, I had assumed resistance and ignoring everything! Dyatlov clearly did something wrong though, right? I'm so curious to know why it exploded!!

It's pretty impressive that Gorbachev and the leader of the KGB are both accepting and cooperating in everything that needs to be done. So, they're doing a safety check... the temperature jumps, nearly doubling, they took the necessary precaution and then boom. I hope we find out two things.... 1... what made the temperature spike? 2... was the necessary actions really adequate for that? See you next week.
