Band of Brothers Episode 8 *FULL LENGTH REACTION

It's the 8th Monday of Band of Brothers, and I have to say, I have never been more confused watching something before.

It's on me for several reasons, mainly because I've been having horrible sleep for the past few weeks, but also because I've never really been exposed or taken the time to learn the ranks in the military.  I have no idea how Jones is a lieutenant with no experience... do they get it from schooling? And the fact that he got promoted at the end, is it because they don't want him in the field, or he actually deserved it?

I feel like this episode for the most part has left me with way more questions than I started with, but it's possible it will make more sense when I rewatch and perhaps notice Webster's presence earlier in the show.

Anyhow, I still enjoyed the episode and it was scary, especially their patrol at night.  Thankfully Winters is smart and took care of the men with not letting them go on patrol!!

For this style of reaction, you need your own copy to watch the episode.  Also know there is an extension that allows you to do Picture-in-Picture in case you are interested: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/picture-in-picture-extens/hkgfoiooedgoejojocmhlaklaeopbecg?hl=en

I think next episode Easy Company will be entering Germany 😨

I have gotten a lot of things explained if that helps 😅 I'm definitely not an expert, but I've learned a lot!

As a veteran and an amateur military historian I want to explain everything, but it would be a 4 hour video, lol.

Thank you for all of this, it helps tremendously!! I'll try to remember the bottom6 ranks since it feels like those are the most used, at least in Band of Brothers. I missed the end where Cobb was with MPs, but that's a nice addition so it shows that there are consequences to your actions

Verowak

Yes!! Winters is just an absolutely amazing leader, and actually cares about others which seems to be rare in higher ranks (based on movies and TV shows that I've seen). He has consistently shown that he will do what is right for the men that follow him

At this point, while the war was still going on, Winters proved himself to be the absolute definition of a leader that anyone in uniform would be happy to serve under and that every civilian in the world would be proud of. Winters should be heralded as a great human being.

So, just a few notes....Webster was injured in episode 5, Crossroads when Easy Company caught the Germans out in the open and then was hit by German artillery....When someone graduates from West Point they are promoted to 2nd Lieutenant....so as far as ranks go, for the most part.....Private, Corporal, Sergeant (there are different ranks of Sergeant depending on how many stripes you have on your sleeve), 2nd Lieutenant, 1st Lieutenant, Captain, Major, Lieutenant Colonel, Colonel, Brigadier General....I think Lieutenant General, Major General and General (all depending on how many stars you have on your collar).....by and large the ranks have stayed pretty much the same from then until now (Army and Marines...Air Force, slightly different and Navy cometely different) Lipton received a battlefield commission which meant he went from Sergeant to 2nd Lieutenant. It is hard to say why Jones received a promotion so early....it could have been they were hurting for Officer's at the next level......one last thing....Cobb at the end of this episode is seen in the back of a jeep with a number of MP's (Military Police)....I believe he was arrested and charged with hitting an Officer.

I'm not the best with ranks but all i know is that war time makes people rise up the ranks alot faster than in normal circumstances.
