At first I thought he chose this planet because it was hidden, but when I saw how insane he was, he definitely did not have the ability to pick and choose somewhere to go, he just happened to get there via scrap transport. I'm really glad that we get to see more of Maul since his short appearance in Episode 1 was definitely not enough. I didn't know there was a Sith code, it makes it that much more interesting and I want to learn more. It would be neat to have an animated series of the Sith at some point

2023-09-12 12:41:20 +0000 UTCI loved this episode. So Maul is voiced by Sam Witwer. He previously voiced Starkiller from the video game, The Force Unleashed, and The Son from the Mortis Trilogy. He does a good job portraying Maul's insanity here and a semblance of his old self coming back when he mentions revenge, calling back to his line in Phantom Menace, "At last we will have revenge." So I'm not sure how he got on this planet, but my most educated guess would be after he got cut in half and fell in a hole, his torso probably landed in a trash truck and then got dumped here on this trash and scrap planet, and he used the Dark Side to preserve his life, at least until he could attatch his torso to these droid spider legs. And doing so definitely drive him insane. His line, "Through victory my chains are broken", is in reference to the Sith Code, which first appeared in Knights of The Old Republic: "Peace is a lie, there is only passion. Through passion I gain strength. Through strength I gain power. Through power I gain victory. Through victory my chains are broken. The Force shall free me." He then says, "The chains are the easy part, it's what goes on in here that's hard", which the Son also mentioned in the Mortis Arc, but also bringing up that while breaking your chains is easy for him, all the insanity and mental hurdles that happens as a result of going fully into the Dark Side becomes so increasingly difficult and hard to deal with, because you lose yourself.
