Saving Private Ryan (1998) * FULL LENGTH REACTION

Hey friends!  It's Wednesday which means movie reaction time!

I think this has to be one of the best war movies of all time (though I don't have that much experience with war movies, but I still stand by what I said).

To be expected, there was a lot of shaky cam, but it's a war movie, so it makes sense to have it for added effect.

I love seeing actors that I know in movies I had no idea they were in!  It's so interesting to see the different roles people had earlier in their careers.

For full-length reactions, you need your own copy to watch the episode.  Also know there is an extension that allows you to do Picture-in-Picture in case you are interested: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/picture-in-picture-extens/hkgfoiooedgoejojocmhlaklaeopbecg?hl=en

I hope you have a good rest of your week 😊

Saving Private Ryan (1998) * FULL LENGTH REACTION

This exactly. I'm glad I was born in a time and place that there is no war. I admire those who have had to experience war. Ideally there would be no war

I'm glad you enjoyed it! This movie made me very emotional for a whole host of reasons. I'm so appreciative that I've been born in a time and place where I haven't had to experience war, and my heart goes out to those who have ❤

Granted that I haven't seen many war movies, this one felt so realistic. It didn't shy away from the violence and bloodbath. This is the first time I hear of "Born on the Fourth of July", which lines up well with you saying that no one has ever reacted to it, it seems not as well known for some reason. Now I'm curious, plus I think Tom Cruise (from what I've seen, which is like 2 movies) is a good actor so it's a bonus!

Yes! Crawling through the ducts that somehow are built for humans to fit in 🤣

Verowak

Yes! I absolutely love the Jimmy Kimmel/Matt Damon feud, and that is an important point for him 😂

Verowak

Jimmy Kimmel has always expressed his outrage for the money spent on saving Matt Damon.

The answer to the movie quote is Bruce Willis in Die Hard (1988).

Looking forward to watching this reaction. I also have a dark horse suggestion for war movie: "Born on the Fourth of July." And I call it a dark horse suggestion because for whatever reason, no one has ever reacted to it. It was critically lauded when it came out, and was nominated for Oscars. It's based on a true story, was directed by Oliver Stone and stars Tom Cruise. But it's like it's been swept under the rug in recent years. (In full disclosure, I'd say it's more of a drama about the after-effects of war, rather than a war/action movie.) As far as Private Ryan, one thing that I think gets forgotten is that when this came out, it was mind-blowing in terms of how much Spielberg was pushing the envelope in how combat was portrayed on screen. However, since then, tons of films have copied this style, so it might not seem as novel now.

Yeah you are pretty spot on for the movies. As for Band of Brothers and The Pacific are similar shows with the main difference being Band of Brothers is in the European theatre while the Pacific is against the Japanese, both top tier shows tho. Pacific Rim does indeed have 0% connection and isn’t that good of a movie in my opinion. Anyway not a movie I’d rewatch for fun. But of course everyone has their own opinion.

I've a few of those recommended already and I'm curious to see them. Off the top of my head - 1917 is the movie with the seemingly one continuous shot I think? - Dunkirk is Christopher Nolan 😍 - All Quiet on the Western Front is one that I heard about at the Oscars and it seemed good! - We Were Soldiers... Mel Gibson? - Fury ... Brad Pitt and Shia Laboeuf, with Shia doing method acting and pulling his tooth? - Schindler's List ... Liam Neeson got the role because he likes making lists - Full Metal Jacket, I learned last year that it's a war movie. I always think of Full Metal Alchemist when I hear this one 🤣 I will definitely be watching Band of Brothers, though this is the first time I hear of The Pacific (not to be confused with Pacific Rim, I'm assuming). Seems there is a lot of war movie/tv series to see, thank you! 🤩

Looking forward to watching this in a few hours, for adding war movies to the list for the future I would recommend - 1917 (2019, WW1) - Dunkirk (2017, WW2) - All quiet on the western front (2022, German perspective of WW1) - We were Soldiers (2002, Vietnam War) - Fury (2014, WW2 tank perspective) -Schindler’s List (not for the faint of heart) - Full metal Jacket (1987, Vietnam War) It is tradition to mention the 2 HBO mini series `Band of Brothers’ and `The Pacific’ (both 10 episodes) after somebody has wachted Saving Private Ryan, they are both produced by Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks.
