I would have loved if Sirius just dropped instantly from the spell. It would have felt much more impactful for me than how they showed us, but I get that they wanted him to go through the Veil. I'll definitely be reading the books, I love knowing more about characters' thoughts and relationships with others.

Warning book/movie spoilers: I think the anti-climatic deaths are very intentional. It's meant to be a comment on how powerful the spell Avada Kedavra is. In the books its mentioned that the spell leaves no traces at all of any cause of death, just instantly killing them, making it impossible to see in an autoposy what caused the death. Sirus' death in particular was very different than the book. The archway that they fought next to was called "The Veil", and it's a barrier between the land of the living and dead. You can only travel through it one way, so in the books- Bellatrix actually stunned Sirius and he fell into it, effectively dying. I guess they wanted to make it more clear in the film that he actually was completely dead- but it almost didn't make a lot of sense, since the Avada Kedavra spell actually kills instantly, and Sirius stood there looking at Harry in pain. The moment's anti-climaticism is mostly a consequence of having a spell that instantly kills people, and was very much the same with Cedric's death. I personally find the killing curse to be a very interesting concept, but I can see how it can feel very sudden, and without a lot of climax. I guess I've watched the films so many times I hadn't even considered it from that view. A lot of the 5th film's plot was rushed through quite quickly, given that for example Prisoner of Azkaban book had 107K words, and Order of the Phoenix had 257K words. It was the longest book, and had a lot more development for the characters especially Sirius and Harry's relationship. Highly reccomend reading them to get the full extent of the ways in which a lot of these scenarios played out- as the movies suffer a lot from a lack of exposition in many places.
