Dispatches from the Studio: February 2022

Hello my raptor pack,

Welcome to the first of what I hope will become something you all can begin to look forward to every month. This winter was a real busy one and as I continue to learn to find balance in my life as a Freelancer...Mercenary....bounty-hunter? Self employed person... I want to once again make engaging with the members here, and hopefully grow the pack some more. That includes a slight restructure of the Patreon itself. I'll keep the tiers the same but change what's offered in what now that I know what is reasonable to expect from myself.

So along with some other features I hope to upload once a month, I will give you a little newsletter of what's been happening in the studio. There's a lot to catch up on.

-I've been participating with the Western Flyer Foundation as one of their art mentors. I was one of their first mentors last year and now the program is fully funded (I get paid) and there are a ton of other CSUMB grads teaching workshops now. We've just rapped up the fall semester and I'm looking forward to getting paired with another class.

-Speaking of CSUMB grads I've been doing a lot of work with Maayan Visuals. I've been subcontracting with her to help out with her workload overflow. It's been a really lucrative partnership so far and some of my work will hopefully appear on a journal cover or two this year.

-I'm sure most of you have seen by now, but I've created some artwork for The Common Descent Podcast. David and Will gave me one of my first commissions out of grad school and I came back to do their 5 year logo as well as a series of posters of 3 different fossil sites in a cinematic aesthetic. The images are available to be purchased on merch through their site.

-Finally finished this piece for a group in Oregon...Head over to my website to get a better look at it.

- a couple small commissions here and there including a rush job with a one week turn around for the Colorado school of mining, but things are slowing down, I hope to start work on a personal project I have in mind. More on that later.

 Next up: Studio equipment upgrade!

I got this nifty, budget usb mic! In anticipation of a couple podcast interviews as well as upping my video quality, I thought it might be a sound investment. I'm going to be using the camera I've used for conducting my class demos to post HOW-TO VIDEOS!

Yes the long awaited, much promised, much never delivered on videos of me drawing stuff. With the mic and camera set up and some video editing software from the Adobe subscription I'm already paying for, plus all the practice form the class demos I've been doing, I feel like I can actually try to cook some of these up for you guys.

There that wasn't so hard was it, Rob? Look forward to more form me here in the future and thank you thank you thank you for being part of my pack and supporting my art.
