Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood 1x53: "Flame of Vengeance" // Reaction and Discussion

Roy is a brilliant alchemist. His alchemy is produced by the manipulation of chemicals. Specifically he’s changing oxygen density and composition as well and the hydrogen to produce a combustible path/zone. His gloves are made of ignition cloth, so he then snaps to create a spark and voila. 🔥 Its nature of this alchemy is already extremely delicate and requires precision. For him to go even further and do pinpoint aim, even at such a close proximity is very telling of his power. Other than the scene with Lust, we are only told or see an overview of his abilities from flashbacks of the Ishval War, but yes, the power he has is very immense to say the least.

A cool thing i learned from a video essay is that Ron's flame alchemy is controlled by his manipulation of oxygen. which is why it feels like he has pinpoint control and also why he needs flint or flintlike materials to spark his trail of oxygen

I would say Flame Alchemy is probably the best offense, but offers little defense. If that stone debris had hit Roy, he would have died.

Exactly. Roy could have killed Envy within minutes but instead decided to torture him. These things make FMAB so good. It doesn't make tha characters perfect (like Tanjiro in Demon Slayer). They feel like real people tormented by their trauma. Roy's fury is hard to watch but it's so believable

This episode is one for me where I don't justify or enjoy seeing someone not directly trying to kill but rather torture them and I don't really feel sorry for them envy but also what scar said Ed so pitifully he's right because he's speaking from experience
